Exiled Survivors BattleMage Guide: Hybrid Caster Build

How the BattleMage plays in Exiled Survivors — a melee-range magic hybrid with skill combo ideas, Focus passive priorities, and beginner notes.

BattleMage is one of the 24 confirmed characters in Exiled Survivors, and the name is the whole pitch: spell power delivered from melee range. Before you invest, know that the specific starting skills, stat growth and unlock condition are not fully documented — check in-game. Everything below is inference from the name and the game’s systems.

What the name tells you (inference)

The game groups this character with the casters — Arcanist, Sorcerer, Wizard, Elementalist, JackOfAllTrades — but “Battle” is the tell. The reasonable read is a hybrid: melee engagement distance with magic damage, mixing the Sword or Spear families with Elemental or Arcane spells. Again: inference, not documented fact.

Damage direction

Two confirmed routes:

  • Physical melee plus an elemental tag. Sword, Spear or Hammer skills carry your close-range damage; a Fire, Frost or Lightning tag adds the spell layer.
  • Arcane weapon enchantments. The Enchantment family exists precisely to bolt spell damage onto weapon hits — a natural fit for a battle-mage fantasy.

See the damage types guide before committing.

Core skill combo

Three skill types are confirmed: Automatic, Energy, Passive, plus Focus passives at +/++/+++.

  • Automatic core: a Sword or Spear skill for the melee layer, plus one Elemental or Arcane skill for the spell layer.
  • Energy skill: a Burst or Wave — both are close-range patterns that punish standing in your face, which is where a BattleMage lives anyway.
  • Focus passives: this is the hard part. You are splitting between melee and magic passives. Rule of thumb: pick the one your best-leveled skill belongs to and let the other ride on raw numbers.

Build direction

  1. Do not half-commit to everything. Choose melee or magic as your passive focus by the third offer.
  2. Movement is survival — a hybrid that stands still gets shot by ranged packs.
  3. Energy skills matter more here than for pure casters because you cannot kite as freely.
  4. Gear: favor whatever boosts the focus you picked. Drop weights are not fully documented — check in-game.

Beginner-friendly?

Intermediate. The Knight teaches positioning with one damage layer; BattleMage asks you to manage two. Play a Knight or Wizard first.

How it differs

Knight is pure physical melee; Wizard is pure ranged magic. BattleMage sits between them and pays for the flexibility with a harder passive split. Compare all of it in the build compendium.
