Exiled Survivors Character Unlock Guide: How to Get All 30
How character unlocks work in Exiled Survivors — what you start with, the routes that actually produce new characters, and which ones to chase first.
The store page promises up to 30 characters. You start with a small slice of that roster, and the rest come in as you play. The annoying part: the game does not publish a neat unlock table anywhere, and most “unlock lists” floating around are copy-pasted from other games with similar names. So here is what is actually safe to say, plus a route that works regardless of which specific condition the devs attached to which character.
What you can count on
You get a usable starter immediately. You are never stuck with one character, and the starting kit is enough to clear the opening zone. Do not reroll or stall at the select screen.
Boss kills are the backbone. All 34 Steam achievements in Exiled Survivors are boss-kill achievements — Dire Porcupine, Bandit Warlock, Troll Shaman and Flesh Golem in the Wilds, Mummy Pharaoh, Genie and Anubis in the Dunes, and the nine demon lords at the end. A game that gates everything behind boss kills is a game where progression = pushing further. Every new character you get is a byproduct of going deeper, not of grinding one zone.
Account progression runs alongside. Commander level and meta upgrades climb on every run, win or lose. Runs that end early still move the account forward, which is why “just queue again” is a legitimate strategy here.
Where the specifics get fuzzy
The exact condition per character — clear X stage, hit Commander level Y, kill boss Z with a particular character — is not fully documented — check in-game. Go to the character select screen and read the greyed-out portraits; the game does show a hint line on locked entries, and that line is the authoritative answer. Treat any third-party list as a guess until you see it there yourself.
If no hint is visible, assume it is progression-gated (deeper clears, more commander levels) rather than a hidden trick. Nothing in this game appears to be locked behind a secret input.
The unlock order that actually helps
- One character per damage type. Get a fire starter, a frost starter, a lightning starter and a physical starter before you chase favourites. See the damage types guide for what each one is good at, and the best characters guide for which of the early ones are worth levelling.
- Characters whose starting weapon matches a strong family. A character that starts with a skill you would have picked anyway is a free head start. Cross-check against the skills tier list.
- Whatever the roster gives you while pushing. Do not farm for a specific unlock. Push stages, take what drops out.
The loop to run
Clear the Wilds clean → push one zone deeper than last time → bank the account XP → repeat. That is the whole unlock engine. If you are dying at the same wall repeatedly, the stage progression guide covers what to go back and farm, and the tips and mistakes guide covers the habits that usually cause the wall.
