Exiled Survivors: The Dunes Region Guide
The Dunes is where Exiled Survivors stops holding back — the difficulty jump from the Wilds, the mid-run build adjustments it forces, and the bosses that gate the endgame.
If the Wilds is the tutorial, the Dunes is the exam. Exiled Survivors shifts to undead and demon themes here, and the run stops giving you free minutes. Most players who quit, quit here.
What changes from the Wilds
Density. Packs arrive thicker and faster. A build that cleared the Wilds by standing in one spot will get buried inside two minutes.
Status pressure. Slows and roots stop being an inconvenience and start being a death sentence, because a slowed player cannot walk out of the next attack. Frost Mage and the frost-themed Dunes bosses are the specific offenders.
Summoners. The Dunes is full of bosses that spawn adds — Mummy Pharaoh keeps summoning until it dies, the Elemental Totem is nothing but a spawner. These are damage races, and AoE-only builds lose them.
Boss density. Anubis, the Mummy Pharaoh, the Genie, the Frost Dragon with its escort, the Lava Serpent / Lava Golem / Lava Dragon trio, the Reaper, the Frost Mage, the Lightning Sorcerer and Thunder Tracker pair, the Elemental Totem, and the Titan. That is a lot of named fights in one stretch — full details in the stage bosses guide.
Mid-run build adjustments
By the time you reach the Dunes your build is mostly locked, but three corrections are still worth making:
- Add a single-target answer if you do not have one. Summoners and armored walls will stall you otherwise. Bleeding stacks and armor break are the usual fix — see the damage types guide.
- Take the defensive picks you skipped in the Wilds. Deliberately banking those slots earlier pays off here.
- Stop adding new skills. Past this point, levels are better spent maxing what you already have than widening the kit. Check the skills tier list and the Focus passives guide for what is worth finishing.
Resource notes
Exact drop tables and relic rates are not fully documented — check in-game. The working priority: bank experience gems aggressively, finish your core skill levels before chasing a fifth damage source, and take relics that match your committed element over higher-rarity relics in the wrong one. The build compendium has the full priority order.
The gate
Anubis is the wall at the end of this stretch — a long, multi-phase fight that tests everything the earlier regions taught at once. If you can beat it reliably, you are ready for the endgame; if you cannot, the gap is almost always one of those three build corrections, not your character choice.
If you keep dying here
- Dying to packs → coverage too thin. Go back one region, run a clean clear, come back with more AoE.
- Dying to bosses → you are short on movement, not damage. Learn the telegraphs in the stage bosses guide.
- Dying late with a full build → that is the run timer. Rerun.
Progression gates and what to farm are covered in the stage progression guide; once the Dunes is consistent, the Nine Circles is next and Hard mode is worth queuing.
