Exiled Survivors Stage Progression: When to Push and When to Farm
How Exiled Survivors stages are structured, the gate between each stretch, how to tell if you are ready for the next zone, and what to farm after a failed run.
Exiled Survivors runs are 15 to 20 minutes, and the campaign is built as three broad stages. The achievement list actually names nine distinct zones along that road — the Wilds, Cold Death, the Swamp, the Dunes, the Manor, the Mountain, the Volcano, the Elemental Plane, and finally the Nine Circles of Hell — so “three stages” is how the run is framed, not how many places you will fight in.
Knowing when to move on matters more than your build for the first several hours. Here is how to read it.
The three stretches
Stage one — the Wilds. Teaching zone. Elites like the Troll Shaman, Bandit Warlock, Dire Porcupine and Flesh Golem each introduce one mechanic: kill the caster, read the floor, kite the charger, respect the wall. Full breakdown in the Wilds guide.
Stage two — the middle. Cold Death, the Swamp and the approach to the Dunes. Status effects start stacking, roots and slows start killing you, and bosses begin summoning adds. Builds that spread across damage types start failing here.
Stage three — the Dunes and beyond. The difficulty wall. Undead and demon themes, then the Nine Circles of Hell. Full boss roster in the stage bosses guide.
Are you ready for the next zone?
Three checks, in order:
- Can you clear the current zone’s boss without burning all your movement options? If the boss fight is the only hard part, you are ready. If the trash before it is deleting you, you are not.
- Is your build committed to one damage type? By the middle stretch, mixed builds stop working. Check the damage types guide and pick a lane.
- Do you have a horde answer and a single-target answer? Every zone past the Wilds tests both. AoE-only builds stall on summoners; single-target-only builds drown in packs.
Normal to Hard
The gate most players cite is Commander Level 35. That number is widely repeated but not fully documented — check in-game: the mode select screen states the requirement under the locked entry, and that is the number that counts for your build of the game. Either way, the practical answer is the same — Hard is gated behind account level, not behind a single clear, so the way to unlock it is to keep running normal and banking commander XP.
What to do when Hard is open: read the hard mode guide before you queue, because the build priorities genuinely invert.
After a failed run
Do not immediately rerun the same zone with the same plan. Ask which of these killed you:
Died to trash → your horde clear is too weak. Go back one zone, farm a clean clear, and level more AoE. Died to a boss → you are probably fine on damage and short on movement. Practice the fight; bosses here are telegraphed. Died late with a full build → this is just the run timer doing its job. Rerun.
Farming a lower zone is never wasted: account XP accrues either way, and unlocks ride on total progression, not on one perfect run. If you are new to the loop entirely, start with the beginner guide.
