Battlefield 6 Crashes: Every Error Code and the Fix That Actually Works

BF6 crashing to desktop, black screen on launch, or EA Javelin anti-cheat errors? Here is the full troubleshooting tree — Secure Boot, Javelin reinstall, DRS fix, driver rules, and the Windows Exploit Protection setting that stops c0000005 crashes.

Battlefield 6 is demanding, and its kernel-level EA Javelin anti-cheat turns ordinary PC problems into hard launch failures. This guide is ordered by how often each fix actually resolves crashes, based on EA’s own support documentation and confirmed community fixes from the EA forums. Work top to bottom and test after each step.

First: identify your crash type

  • Crash before the logo / anti-cheat error → Javelin problem (Section 2)
  • Crash to desktop during play, no error → driver or DRS problem (Sections 3–4)
  • Black screen, game loads then dies → usually DRS or overlay conflict (Section 4)
  • Error code on screen → jump to Section 6

1. Secure Boot — the #1 silent killer

EA Javelin requires Secure Boot enabled in BIOS. If it’s off, the game simply won’t launch, and the error message doesn’t always say why. Reboot, enter BIOS (Del/F2/F12), find Secure Boot under Boot or Security, set it to Enabled, set Boot Mode to UEFI if it isn’t already, save and reboot. Every reputable BF6 PC build now ships with this pre-enabled for exactly this reason.

2. EA Javelin anti-cheat errors (exit code 0xC0000604)

If the game crashes on launch with a Javelin error, the anti-cheat service failed to start. In order:

  1. Close every overlay and macro tool first — Discord overlay, GeForce Experience, MSI Afterburner + Rivatuner (RTSS), AutoHotkey, ReWASD, and any input remapper. Javelin blocks some of these outright (AutoHotkey, ReWASD, Interception) and can flag your account.
  2. Run the EA app as administrator — right-click → Run as administrator, even on Steam. Then launch the game from the EA app.
  3. Repair, then reinstall Javelin — EA app → Library → Battlefield 6 → Repair. If that fails, run the uninstaller in C:\Program Files\EA\Javelin, then relaunch the game; it reinstalls automatically.
  4. Whitelist anti-cheat in your antivirus — add EAAntiCheat.GameServiceLauncher.exe in the game folder and the service in C:\Program Files\EA\AC.

One more official note from DICE’s Season 4 anti-cheat update: client crashes traced to CPU microcode and Windows Insider builds conflicting with Javelin were fixed via Intel/Microsoft updates. If you’re on an Insider build, leave it; otherwise apply the latest Windows updates and CPU microcode.

3. GPU driver rules (NVIDIA and AMD)

  • AMD users: driver 26.7.1 (July 28) fixed a large wave of launch and in-game crashes — update if you’re older. Install clean: uninstall the old driver with DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) first, then install fresh.
  • NVIDIA users: install the latest Game Ready driver, again preferably clean.
  • DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG means a background app hung your GPU: fully restart the PC (not just the game) and close background apps before launching.

4. The DRS fix (black screen / mid-match crashes)

Dynamic Resolution Scaling has caused black screens and crashes since launch. Disable it in the config file:

  1. Close the game.
  2. Open Documents\Battlefield 6\settings\steam\PROFSAVE_profile
  3. Find GstRender.DRSEnabled and set the value to 0.
  4. Save and restart the game.

5. The Exploit Protection fix (c0000005 access violations)

Windows’ forced ASLR has been linked to ExceptionCode c0000005 crashes:

  1. Windows Security → App & browser control → Exploit protection → Program settings → Add program to customize.
  2. Select bf6.exe.
  3. Edit the settings; if Force randomization for images (Mandatory ASLR) is On, choose Override system settings and switch it Off. Apply.

Also repair the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables (install both x64 and x86) if crashes persist — corrupted runtimes cause random access violations.

6. Error code quick reference

If nothing works

Verify game files (Steam: Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity; EA app: Repair), clear the EA app cache (Help → App Recovery), and report with your DxDiag, minidumps, and crash context (when it crashes, what AMD/NVIDIA features are enabled) on the EA forums — that’s the exact package DICE asks for.

One habit worth keeping: after every BF6 update, expect new crash reports. The pattern since launch is that a driver or anti-cheat update follows within days, so before deep troubleshooting, check whether your GPU vendor released a BF6-specific driver this week.
