Rocket League Free Items Guide: Every Way to Get Cosmetics Without Spending Money

You don't need Credits to build a garage. Here's every legitimate way to get free Rocket League items: drops, challenges, events, tournaments, Twitch Drops, and codes.

Rocket League throws cosmetics at people who show up. You’ll never outfit a full garage on free stuff alone, but you can keep a steady stream of items coming without spending a cent. Here’s where to get them.

Post-match drops

The bread and butter. Play online matches — casual, competitive, or Extra Modes — and you have a chance at an item drop after each one.

  • There’s a weekly drop cap (around ten, as of Season 24), resetting on Wednesday.
  • Private and exhibition matches don’t count.
  • Finish matches — quitting early kills your drop chances.

Two or three sessions a week keeps you at the cap without it feeling like a job.

The free Rocket Pass track

Every season’s pass has a free track that progresses with normal play — occasional items just for earning XP. Not flashy, but it adds up, and the progress still counts if you buy Premium later. Details in the Rocket Pass guide.

Challenges

Weekly and season challenges sit in the Rocket Pass menu and reward XP (which drives pass tiers) and sometimes items. Stack ones that complete in the same games instead of grinding them one at a time.

Events

Psyonix runs themed events a few times a year — Frosty Fest, Haunted Hallows, summer events, season-specific ones. Playing during an event earns event currency or challenge progress, which converts into event-exclusive decals, wheels, toppers, and sometimes car bodies. Event items often don’t come back for a long time, so clear the list before it ends.

As of Season 24: the Run it Up event runs from September 23 through early December — 14 challenges paying out drops from the new Nova Collection (including the Ronin GXT body and Laser-Light goal explosion). The Persona 5 crossover also has its own challenge rewards. Check the Events tab for what’s live.

Tournaments

In-game tournaments are completely free to enter and run daily in every region. Even a first-round win earns Tournament Credits, which you redeem for cups granting tournament-exclusive cosmetics, and a tournament win gets you a title. Full details in the tournaments guide.

Twitch Drops

During RLCS LANs and major broadcasts, Psyonix runs Drops campaigns. Link your Epic account to Twitch (one-time setup), watch Drops-enabled streams, and claim rewards from your Twitch inventory. RLCS returns to London this December for the Club Championship — link your accounts now, not the day of.

Redeem codes

Psyonix occasionally releases codes through trailers, social media, and partnerships. Redeem in-game (Options → Extras → Redeem Code). Two rules:

  • Codes only ever grant cosmetics. No code has ever granted Credits or a car body.
  • Codes expire. Use them when you find them.

The scam warning

Any site, video, or Discord promising “free Credits,” a “Credits generator,” or a car body for a code is a phishing attempt. There is no legitimate free-credits source outside the Rocket Pass payback and trade-ins.

Don’t forget trade-ins

Duplicate drops aren’t worthless — five items of the same rarity trade in for one item of the next rarity up. Rules and limits in the trading guide.

Bottom line: cap your weekly drops, clear event and pass challenges, play a tournament or two, and link Twitch during RLCS weekends. That’s a full garage without a receipt.
