THE FINALS Beginner Guide: Your First 30 Minutes, Step by Step
New to THE FINALS? A calm first-session path: try Practice vs AI first, learn movement and gadgets, then step into Cashout. Built for Season 12 Prime Time.
THE FINALS throws you into a destructible game show with three classes, gadgets, and a cash-banking loop that isn’t obvious at first. The good news: Season 12 “Prime Time” (October 20, 2026) added tools that make the onboarding smoother. Here is a 30-minute path that avoids the usual new-player overwhelm.
Step 1 — Play Practice vs AI first
Do not jump straight into PvP. THE FINALS has a Practice vs AI mode (added in Season 11) purpose-built for learning movement, gadgets, and the Cashout loop against bots. Spend your first session here. You will learn:
- How movement feels (this is a movement-heavy shooter — sliding, vaulting, and using verticality matter more than in most FPS).
- What your gadgets do without throwing a real match.
- The open→carry→deposit Cashout rhythm (see our Cashout guide).
Step 2 — Pick Medium to start
Medium is the balanced class and the safest teacher (see our classes guide). You get decent guns, healing, and gadgets that explain the game’s tempo. Once comfortable, try Light for aggression or Heavy for anchoring.
Step 3 — Learn the gadgets, not just the gun
THE FINALS’ identity is its gadgets and specialization — goo, mesh shields, recon, and (for Light) the new Infiltrator tools. A player who uses gadgets wins more than a player who only aims. In Practice, experiment with each.
Step 4 — Use the destruction
The maps are destructible, and Season 12 deepened it further (see our destruction guide). You can blow a hole in a wall to make a new lane. Early on, just notice it — “I can break that?” — and you’ll start using it.
Step 5 — Then queue Cashout
After Practice, jump into Cashout (3v3). You’ll be behind on mechanics but the loop will feel familiar. Avoid Solo Showdown until you know your class — it drops you solo into 12 players and punishes the unprepared.
What NOT to worry about
- The “best weapon” tier list. Season 12 just reshuffled balance; weapon strength is still settling. Learn your class’s kit first.
- Looking pro. Everyone started by falling through floors they blew open. Laugh and learn.
First 30 minutes: Practice vs AI on Medium → learn gadgets + movement → one real Cashout match. That is enough to decide if THE FINALS is your game — and it probably is.
