THE FINALS Melee: The Stamina System and Precision Hits

THE FINALS reworked melee in Season 11 with Precision damage zones and a Stamina system. Here is how the lunge works, why stamina gates your combos, and when melee is actually worth it in Season 12.

Melee in THE FINALS used to be a panic button. After the Season 11 rework — and still central in Season 12 Prime Time — it is a real option with its own rules. If you have been ignoring it, here is what changed.

The two big changes

Precision damage zones. Melee now has a “Precision” hit location — land the precise spot (think a headshot-equivalent for your bat or sword) and you deal significantly more damage than a body hit. So melee is no longer “any swing connects”; it rewards aim, just at close range.

Stamina system. Melee actions, especially the lunge (a ~4.5 meter gap-closer), now draw from a Stamina meter. You cannot spam lunges — swing or lunge too much and you are locked out until stamina recovers. This is what stops melee from being oppressive: the best melee players ration their lunges for the kill, not for chasing.

How the lunge works

The lunge is your engage tool: a quick ~4.5m dash that closes distance for a melee hit. It is strong for catching runners and finishing low-health targets, but because it costs stamina, whiffing a lunge leaves you vulnerable. Time it, don’t spray it.

When melee is worth it

  • Finishing a low-HP enemy who is out of your gun’s ideal range.
  • The Light Infiltrator’s sword builds — Season 12’s Boom Brawl mode literally puts everyone on sword Lights, so melee is the whole game there (see our Solo Showdown guide).
  • Quiet picks when you don’t want to reveal your position with gunfire.

When it isn’t

  • Versus a Heavy at range — you will lose the gunfight-by-proxy; use mobility instead.
  • As your only plan — stamina gating means a pure-melee Light gets punished by anyone who respects the lunge.

Practical tip: practice the Precision hit in Practice vs AI. Once you can consistently land the precise zone, melee becomes a real tool in your kit rather than a panic swing — and in sword-heavy rounds it is the difference between winning and feeding.
