THE FINALS Crash Fix and Reconnect Guide (Season 12)
THE FINALS troubleshooting guide: how to reconnect after a crash or disconnect, avoid leaving penalties, and fix common launch, stutter and low FPS problems.
THE FINALS Crash Fix and Reconnect Guide (Season 12)
Crashes, disconnects, and a PC that suddenly decides 40 frames is plenty. It happens to everyone, and Season 12’s big destruction update makes stability more relevant than usual. Here’s how to get back into the fight fast.
If you crash mid-match: reconnecting
The key thing to know: use the reconnect path, don’t just relaunch into a fresh queue.
- After a crash, relaunch the game and look for the option to return to your match — THE FINALS supports rejoining a session you were disconnected from, and that’s how you keep your team’s cash progress.
- If the game dumps you to the main menu with a connection error, check the server status first. If the servers are having a bad day, nothing you do locally will help.
- Don’t alt-F4 out of frustration. A clean reconnect and a rage-quit are treated very differently by the game.
Leaving penalties and how to avoid them
Quitting a live match hurts you — and in ranked, it hurts your team.
- Casual modes have their own deserter consequences, and Ranked Cashout is worse: you drop the rating your team is still fighting for.
- If you have to leave, leave between matches or during the post-match lobby, not mid-round.
- One genuine safety net from Season 12: Rank Score lost because of a server outage is returned automatically, with a message within 24 hours. If you lost RS during a server problem, don’t grind to make it back — it comes back on its own.
Launch and crash fixes
Work through these in order:
- Verify game files. On Steam, right-click THE FINALS → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity. Corrupted files after an update are the single most common launch issue, and Season 12 was a big patch.
- Update your GPU drivers. A major engine change like the destruction overhaul can expose driver bugs. A clean driver install fixes a surprising number of crashes.
- Close conflicting overlays. Discords, GeForce Experience, MSI Afterburner and similar overlays are classic crash culprits after big updates. Test with them off before blaming the game.
- Run as administrator if the launcher itself misbehaves, and check your antivirus or firewall isn’t quarantining game files after the update.
Stutter and low FPS fixes
Season 12’s new destruction physics is more demanding than the old system — buildings simulate damage gradually instead of just vanishing, and that costs frames. If your performance dropped after Prime Time:
- Drop your graphics preset first. The biggest Season 12 performance lever is overall quality; the destruction simulation scales with it.
- Cap your frame rate if you’re getting stutter with unstable frame times. A stable lower frame rate feels better than a spiky high one.
- Turn off motion blur and any film-grain style effects. They cost frames and hide enemies — there’s no upside.
- Close background apps. A browser with 30 tabs eats RAM that the destruction physics would love to have.
