THE FINALS Dagger guide: the Light melee weapon's backstab play, strengths and weaknesses, and which Infiltrator and Cloak builds suit it.

THE FINALS Dagger Guide (Season 12)

The Dagger is the Light melee weapon — the purest expression of THE FINALS’ hit-and-run fantasy. It’s fast, it’s quiet, and a clean backstab can eliminate a contestant outright. It’s also the highest-risk primary in the game, because every fight you take with it is a fight you chose to take without a gun.

What it is

A Light-build melee blade. Fast swings, quick kills at point-blank range, and the infamous backstab that can end a player in one hit. The Sword gets more headlines for its lunge, but the Dagger is the assassin’s tool — smaller, quicker, and far more forgiving when you whiff.

Engagement range

  • Sweet spot: hugging distance. If you can’t reach them with a dash or a step, you’re not in range.
  • Backstabs are the weapon. Approach from behind, wait for the animation, delete. That’s the loop.
  • Never trade straight up against a player who’s already shooting. Your whole game is hitting them before they start.

Attachment ideas

The Dagger doesn’t have a traditional attachment identity — your real “build” is the rest of your loadout. Prioritize gadgets that get you close or keep you hidden: Cloaking Device, Evasive Dash, the Grappling Hook. The melee guide covers swing cancels and movement tech that raise the Dagger’s ceiling.

Pros and cons

Why it’s deadly:

  • One-hit backstab potential — the biggest single hit in the Light kit
  • Doesn’t reveal you the way gunfire does; perfect for Infiltrator play
  • Fast swing recovery means you can chain fights if you land the first hit

Where it hurts:

  • Zero answer to a ranged player who sees you first
  • You’re committing to melee — no fallback plan mid-fight
  • Brutal learning curve; expect to feed until it clicks

Who should run it

Aggressive players who already know the maps and love the Infiltrator fantasy. The Dagger plus Cloaking Device is the classic assassin combo: circle, cloak, close, delete, leave. True Sight on the Infiltrator makes the approach dramatically more reliable, because you’ll know whose back is turned.

If melee interests you but you want a safer entry point, read the melee guide first, and the Infiltrator guide for the gadget pairing that makes the Dagger sing.
