The First Descendant Returning Player Guide (Season 4)
Coming back to The First Descendant in 2026? Here is everything that changed — the new content, the reworked systems, and the catch-up path that gets you current.
The First Descendant has changed a lot since launch. If you played at release, or dropped off during Season 2 or 3, the game you remember is not the game that exists now — new content modes, reworked characters, and a progression system that has been adjusted repeatedly.
This guide is the catch-up. What changed, what is new, and the fastest path back to current.
What is new since you left
Season 4: The Great Clash. The current season, launched August 2026. It finished the Karel story arc and added the Mega Dungeon — Karel’s Mothership — with Normal, Hard, and a limited-time Conquest difficulty.
The Mega Dungeon. A large-scale dungeon with interactive elements and the Karel fight. It is the primary source of endgame loot: Ancestor Modules, alignment devices, and Transcendent Weapon Loot.
Onslaught. The wave-based mode, now at Stage 5 — six waves with a Colossus at the end. It is the most reliable Transcendent Weapon farm in the game.
Trials. The roguelite mode. Two dungeons rotating daily — Protocol 001 (Order of Truth) and Protocol 002 (Legion of Immortality) — each with its own legion and loot pool.
New Descendants. Raven (August 2026, the current meta pick), Ultimate Hailey (September 2026), and more announced through December — Monet in November, Ultimate Jayber and the Colosseum-A PvEvP mode in December.
Transcendent Weapons. The golden-border ultimate weapons, now the endgame chase, dropping with quality rolls from the hardest content.
The rotational boost system. A recent addition that boosts specific content on rotation — check what is boosted before you farm.
What was reworked
Freyna. The poison debuffer was reworked again in the October patch — new damage scaling, longer debuff durations, and a changed skill kit. If you mained her, her build is different now.
Dokkaebi — not this game. That is Siege. Stay focused.
The balance cadence. The game now gets substantial balance patches every few weeks rather than every season. The meta moves faster than it used to — check the current patch before rebuilding an old character.
The catch-up path
Week one: The story. If you are starting fresh or your account is old, the story missions are the fastest way back to the current level. They pay the best XP and unlock everything.
Week one, part two: The systems. Re-read the Research Institute. The material sources may have moved. Inspect everything before you farm it.
Week two: Endgame access. Run the Mega Dungeon on Normal, then Onslaught from Stage 1. The entry requirements scale, so start where you can clear and work up.
Week three: The weekly routine. Weekly operations, Onslaught weekly, Trials. This is the current endgame loop, and it is where all the best rewards live.
Ongoing: One build at a time. Pick a current-meta Descendant — Raven if you have her, Enzo or Valby if you do not — and build it properly before spreading out.
The systems to re-learn
Modding. The module system is the same, but the strongest modules now come from the new content. Ancestor Modules from the Mega Dungeon and Onslaught are the top tier.
Transcendent Weapons. New since the old days. They drop with quality rolls, they need unique research materials, and they are a months-long chase. Do not start the farm until your main is built.
Mastery Rank. Account-wide, permanent, and it comes from normal play. If your account is old, yours is probably high — that is a real advantage.
What to ignore
Your old builds. The balance patches have moved everything. Rebuild from the current guides.
Your old weapon levels. Weapon Proficiency is per-weapon, and new weapons start at zero. Level what you use now.
The old “best farm” videos. Most of them are from previous patches. The current farms are Onslaught Stage 5, the Mega Dungeon, and the weeklies.
The one thing to remember
The story first, then the Mega Dungeon and Onslaught, then the weekly loop. The First Descendant’s catch-up path is short — the game is generous to returning players, and a few weeks of focused play gets you current. Pick one current Descendant, build it properly, and let the rest follow.
