Void Erosion Purge Guide – Weapon Cores, the MR18 Wall, and Why You Farm It

How Void Erosion Purge works in The First Descendant: the Mastery Rank 18 gate, the 10-minute clear timer, barrier breaks, and the Weapon Core system it feeds.

Void Erosion Purge is the endgame treadmill for Weapon Cores, and it is gated hard: you need Mastery Rank 18 and the “Disseminating Response Policy to the Void Anomalies” quest from the Descendant Instructor in Albion. If you are not there yet, our tfd-mastery-rank-guide lays out the climb. Access it from the Infiltration Operations Terminal or the Void Erosion icon on the world map.

The Timer Pressure

Each stage has a 10-minute target time to unlock the next one, and a 15-minute hard limit. Beat the target, you advance. Beat it but slower, you get loot and stall. Blow past 15 minutes, you get nothing. Public matchmaking only opens on stages 1, 5, 9, 13, and 17; everything else is private or premade only, so expect to solo or squad up for the tough ones.

The Barrier Mechanic

Higher stages slap Arc Obstructions on enemies – elemental barriers (Fire, Electric, Toxic, and so on) that cut your damage by around 81% until you break them. That is why a one-trick attribute build stalls here; you need options or the right break tool. Bring a Descendant who can handle mixed resists, and our tfd-tier-list points to the flexible picks.

Why Bother

The main reward is Weapon Cores, which you socket at the Core Crafting Bench. You unlock the system on a Level 100 weapon with a Core Binder (2,000 Void Abyss Metal Fragments), then fill up to five slots – Firepower, Hit, Attribute, Free, Tactical, Precision, and Special – and re-roll with Core Particle Disruptors. Higher stages unlock higher-tier cores. Note that the Transcendent Weapons added in 2025 skip cores entirely, so once you have one, pivot to tfd-transcendent-weapon-farm instead. For the gear those cores slot into, see tfd-reactor-external-components.
