Build your own Battlefield 6 map in Portal
Want a custom layout? Portal is where BF6 players build and share their own maps with the community.
Battlefield 6 does not ship a built-in map painter for core modes. Portal is where custom maps actually live.
What “your own map” really means: you are not sculpting hills from nothing. You take a shipped map and reshape the fight on top of it. That constraint is actually the fun part.
Here is how the options stack up:
| Option | What you control | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Portal editor | Points, props, rules | Fresh twists on old maps |
| Portal codes | Sharing and loading | Grabbing community builds |
| Standard modes | Nothing custom | Quick ranked-style play |
Start from a copy
Most Portal editors let you clone a map, then tweak. Clone one you enjoy, move a single capture point, and test. Small changes teach the system without drowning you.
Start in Portal from the main menu. Pick a base map, then move capture points and props to shape the fight. You are rearranging, not redrawing terrain.
A good first build
A good first build copies a layout you like, then changes one thing. Move a spawn, add vehicles, tweak the timer. Small edits teach the tools fast.
When it plays well, share it. Our Portal mode guide walks the creator menu, and Portal codes explains how friends load your map.
Share to learn
Post your code and watch how strangers play it. Their paths reveal what works. The Portal codes page explains the sharing format.
Not sure Portal fits your style? The modes overview compares it with the standard playlists side by side.
Community maps range from silly to brutal. Try a few before judging the mode, since quality varies a lot. The toolset expands over time, so build within what you can test — a map that leans on an untested feature is a map nobody plays twice.
Keep your first project small so you actually finish it. Half-built maps clutter your list and teach nothing. Build one ugly map. You learn more from that than from reading ten guides.
Test with friends first
Before you publish, run your map with a couple of mates who will tell you the truth. They will find the dead spots you missed while building it. The modes overview helps you place it against the standard playlists for context.
