Black Hawk Down N.S.D.Q.: Night Extraction

Stay undetected after dark by controlling light, noise, and detection cues through the extraction.

N.S.D.Q. is the campaign’s stealth chapter: a night extraction where being seen is the failure state, not a complication. Every other mission lets you shoot your way out of a mistake. This one converts detection into a problem that compounds — and the tools you have are light discipline, noise discipline, and patience.

It is also the mission where headphones stop being optional. If the campaign is built on audio cues at night, a phone speaker or a desktop speaker setup will not carry them; the audio settings page covers the priority order for footsteps and gunfire.

Light discipline

At night, your own light sources are the loudest thing in the mission. Two rules:

  • Default to dark. Move without active light unless the ground genuinely demands it. Your eyes adapt; the enemy’s do not need to.
  • Light in bursts, from cover. When you must illuminate — a dark interior, an obstacle — do it from behind cover, briefly, then return to dark. A permanently lit player is a beacon.

Exactly how enemy detection responds to light in this mission — and whether suppressed or unsuppressed fire changes your alert state — is worth checking in-game, because the detection rules define how strict your discipline needs to be.

Noise discipline

Night missions reward slow movement over fast movement:

  • Move at a deliberate cadence. Sprinting is for emergencies. Most of this mission is walk-paced movement with pauses to listen.
  • Pause at decision points. Before crossing open ground or entering an interior, stop and listen. The campaign’s audio design gives you information; taking it is free.
  • Coordinate, don’t shout. In co-op, keep the squad together but spread slightly, so one detection does not light up the whole team. Voice comms are how you coordinate — in-game noise is how you get found.

Route planning

Extraction missions have a beginning and an end, and the middle is yours to shape. Before moving, identify the route you intend to take and one alternate. At night you cannot scout as freely as in daylight, so the plan matters more than improvisation. If the mission offers flexibility in approach lanes, prefer the one with the most cover and the fewest long sightlines.

When detection happens anyway

Have a fallback ready before you need it: a covered position near your route that faces the most likely reinforcement lane. If you are detected, break to that position, fight from it, and only then decide whether to continue the extraction or push through the contact. Improvising a defensive position at night is how stealth runs turn into losing attrition fights.

Difficulty context

N.S.D.Q. sits in the campaign’s upper band alongside the convoy mission, well below the final chapter but far above the opening missions. It is also the mission that most rewards the four-player squad the developers recommend — shared arcs mean one player’s mistake does not end the run. The campaign overview has the full curve, and Valor is the position-selection refresher to replay first if night runs keep going loud.
