Delta Force Guided Missiles: How to Use and Counter Them
Delta Force guided missiles — lock-on mechanics, when to fire, and how to avoid or counter them in Warfare and Operations.
Guided missiles in Delta Force are the indirect-fire tools that let you hit what you cannot see — vehicles, fortified positions, and clusters that would otherwise be safe behind cover. They are powerful, but they are not fire-and-forget, and players who treat them as such waste them. This guide covers how the lock works, when to actually fire, and how to stop one coming at you.
Lock parameters shift between patches, so learn the launch envelope by feel in the training ground rather than by number — the lock tone tells you more than the listed range.
How the lock works
Guided missiles fire from launchers (often vehicle-mounted or specialist kits) and track a locked target rather than a fixed point. The key steps:
- Acquire — the target must be in the launcher’s acquisition cone and within range. Hard cover or being unspotted breaks the lock attempt.
- Lock — once locked, the missile steers toward the target. This is what separates it from an unguided rocket, which flies straight and is easy to dodge.
- Fire — the missile travels and guides in. It is still dodgeable by a moving target that breaks line of sight, but far harder to avoid than a dumb rocket.
When to fire
- Stationary or slow targets — parked vehicles, a crew repairing, a fortified squad. A guided missile punishes anything that cannot move.
- Behind cover you cannot peak — when the angle is impossible for a direct shot, the guide path is the only way in.
- Not on a sprinting infantryman in the open — that is what your rifle is for. Guided missiles are slow to lock and expensive to waste.
How to counter them
If one is coming at you:
- Break line of sight — get behind hard cover or a building. Locks drop when the target is occluded.
- Keep moving — a locked missile tracks, but a target that changes direction and loses sight is far harder to land on.
- Don’t cluster — guided munitions love groups. Spread out so one shot cannot delete a squad.
- Smoke and active defence — some vehicles and kits can disrupt or intercept; check your loadout’s options in the Warfare mode guide.
Where they fit
Guided missiles are a Warfare and vehicle-pressuring tool more than an Operations looting one. Pair them with an entry operator like D-Wolf who creates the window, or use them to break a defensive hold described in the Operations maps overview.
Lock, confirm the target is slow or hidden, then fire. Everything else is a wasted missile.
