Delta Force Fishing Guide: Rods, Tension, and Records

Unlock fishing at level 17, master the Float and Lure rods with the tension bar, and log every catch in your Gallery.

Fishing is Hazard Operations’ side activity, unlocked once your account reaches level 17. It runs inside normal raids on three Easy-difficulty maps — Zero Dam, Layali Grove, and AZ3 Nuclear Plant — so you can fish on the gentlest PvE maps while other players do whatever they came to do.

Getting started

  1. Reach level 17 on your account.
  2. Queue into one of the three Easy maps and find open water.
  3. Equip the rod from your items and cast.
  4. Every catch is logged in the Gallery and pays Fishing EXP, which levels the activity.

What Fishing EXP unlocks at each level and how large the dedicated case is are not published, so plan the case by what you actually keep — the capacity question is answered by your inventory habit, not by a table.

The two rods

RodHow it plays
Float rodCast and wait. The float sits on the water; when a fish takes the bait, the float dips and you set the hook. Patient, low-input fishing.
Lure rodActive retrieve. Cast, then reel in steadily to move the lure through the water and pull strikes. More input, more control over where you fish.

The tension bar

The hook is only half the fight. Once a fish is on the line, a tension bar shows line stress in three zones, and managing it is the whole minigame:

  1. White — the line is safe. Reel in steadily.
  2. Yellow — the line is under load. Stop reeling and let the fish pull line out, or turn your character to follow its run.
  3. Red — the line is about to break. Release reel input completely and hold until the bar drops back toward yellow.
  4. Repeat the cycle — reel when white, give line when yellow, stop when red — until the fish tires and lands.

Reeling through red risks losing the fish and the line; the exact penalty and recovery cost are version-dependent, so read them off the rod screen in-game. Short, controlled fights land more fish than stubborn ones.

Practical fishing habits

  • Fish from cover. You are in a live raid. A player staring at water is an easy target, so pick spots with an exit and keep an ear on gunfire.
  • Learn one spot per map. Zero Dam’s water is the friendliest place to start; Layali Grove pairs fishing with a loot run along the same loot routes.
  • Watch the Gallery. It records what you catch, so it doubles as a checklist of which species and sizes you are still missing on each map.

Fishing is one of two side activities in Operations; the harmonica is the other. If a bad raid has emptied your stash, the recovery plan explains how to stretch a thin budget, and the beginner’s guide covers the path from a fresh account to level 17.
