Delta Force Hill of Iron: Vehicle Combat Framework
See how a vehicle-forward Warfare playlist works and how seasonal editions layer extra rules on top.
Hill of Iron is a Warfare playlist that pushes the mode’s vehicle layer to the front. Standard Warfare already mixes infantry with armor; Hill of Iron editions make vehicles the center of the match — more armor on the field, scoring that rewards vehicle play, and rules tuned around crews instead of single soldiers. The best-documented case is the Halloween Hill of Iron edition, which ran as a limited event on top of the Warfare framework. Use it as the worked example of how these editions behave, not as a live schedule.
The base framework
Warfare rounds are objective fights between two large teams, and Hill of Iron keeps that skeleton while shifting where the fighting happens. The practical changes:
- Armor leads. Tanks and helicopters set the pace; infantry follow to screen and capture.
- Vehicle survival matters more than kill count. A dead tank is a two-minute problem for your team, not just a lost life.
- Spawn discipline decides early fights. Solo vehicles rolling out alone get circled and destroyed before they reach the first objective.
| Vehicle | Job in a vehicle-forward match | Weakness |
|---|---|---|
| Main battle tank | Hold lanes, break fortified positions | Slow; dies when cut off from infantry |
| Heavy helicopter | Vertical pressure and suppression | Exposed without an infantry screen below |
| Attack boat | Control water lanes, flank coastlines | Open water offers no cover |
| Armored vehicle | Transport, mobile cover, rapid repositioning | Weakest armor of the group |
The vehicle guide covers the full roster and what each one does best on standard Warfare maps.
How editions change the rules
A Hill of Iron edition is the base playlist plus a rule card. The Halloween edition is the documented example: it layered event-specific rules on the Warfare framework for a limited run. The card on the queue screen is the only authoritative source for what a given edition changes — respawn rules, vehicle availability, scoring, and any event-specific mechanics are all listed there. Anything the card does not mention follows base Warfare rules, explained on the Warfare mode page.
Playing an edition well
- Spawn as a crew. Two vehicles moving together beat four moving alone.
- Pair with infantry. Armor without support loses to coordinated anti-armor play.
- Repair behind the front. A damaged vehicle that falls back and repairs is worth more than a dead one that pushed.
- Play the card first. If the edition rewards a specific objective, that objective outranks your personal score.
Reward tracks and scoring values change between editions, so read the current edition’s track before committing a session to it — the mode’s shape is stable but its payout is not. For the general patterns every limited mode shares, see the limited modes framework.
