Delta Force Mandelbrick: Carry Risk vs Decode Reward
Carrying a Mandelbrick reveals your position to the whole map — decide with a checklist before picking one up.
The Mandelbrick is the riskiest pickup in Hazard Operations, and the reason is mechanical rather than statistical: while you carry one, your position is exposed to the entire map. Every other player can see where you are, which turns a quiet loot run into a live beacon. The other half of the trade is that decoding the brick produces rare items — the kind of loot that justifies a fight. This page is the decision framework for when that trade is worth making.
What the mechanic actually does
Two effects, both documented in official descriptions:
- Carrying exposes your position map-wide. The exposure is not proximity-based or sound-based; other players get your location because you hold the item.
- Decoding yields rare items. The brick is a container for high-tier loot, which is why anyone bothers to pick it up at all.
Decode times and spawn rates are tuned between patches, so the risk calculation should use the ratio between decode time and how long the area stays contested — that ratio moves far less than either number.
When to pick it up
Run this checklist before the brick goes into your bag:
- Early in the raid. The exposure lasts as long as you carry it. Grabbing one in the final minutes just paints a target on your extraction path.
- Quiet map. If you have not heard gunfire in a while and no squad has pushed you, player density around you is low and the beacon costs less.
- Squad committed. Everyone agrees: defend the carrier, or nobody touches it. A split decision means a third party gets a free kill on a distracted squad.
- Decode spot chosen. You need a defensible position — interior room, single entrance, away from popular extract paths. Decoding in an open field is how bricks die.
- Exit plan. The fastest safe route from your decode spot should already be in your head before you start.
If two or more of these fail, leave it. A brick you did not pick up has never cost anyone a kit.
When to leave it
- Late raid with known contacts. If another squad already knows you are in the area, exposure turns every rotation into an ambush.
- Thin squad. Solo or duo carriers have no one to watch angles during the decode.
- Broke recovery runs. During the knife period your goal is consistent small profit, not a beacon that invites fights — the recovery plan explains why phase one says no to bricks.
The carry playbook
Once committed, the sequence is fixed: pick up, move immediately to your chosen defensible spot, start the decode, hold angles, and extract by the shortest safe route the moment it finishes. Do not loot on the way. The whole point of the brick is the decode; everything else you pass is a distraction with a body attached.
Fighting while exposed is a numbers game, which makes the fight-or-avoid tree mandatory reading before your first brick run. And if the decoded loot is a red-tier item, the value tier guide tells you whether it belongs in the secure case or the squad’s split.
