Knife Edge Warfare Map Guide: Dam Ridge Survival

Win the narrow dam crest by owning the high side, falling back in pairs, and treating any drop as final.

Knife Edge is a dam crest map where the playable ridge is narrow, the drops on either side are fatal, and there is almost nowhere to hide. Every fight is decided by elevation: the player or team holding the higher angle wins before the trade starts. This guide is written for players who already know Warfare basics and want to stop dying on the ridge.

The core principle: height is everything

On the crest, the high side can shoot the low side’s head while being shot at the chest. That asymmetry means an “even trade” is actually a losing fight if you are low. Before any engagement, ask one question: am I high or low right now?

  • High: hold the angle, make them come up to you, and force them into the open on the way.
  • Low: do not duel from below. Break contact, move along the ridge to a rise, and re-engage from above — or wait for your team to take the high side.

Movement rules on the crest

  1. Pairs, always. A player who falls off the ridge is dead. A pair where one player drops still has a shooter covering the recovery path. Solo movement on Knife Edge is the single biggest cause of losses.
  2. Never cross exposed sections together. Stagger crossings; one player moves while the other watches the ridge ahead.
  3. Use the structures, not the edge. Dam structures along the crest give cover from the other side; the open middle of the ridge gives cover from nothing.
  4. Count angles, not players. When you hold a rise, list the places an enemy can appear. Hold the ones you can see and smoke or avoid the ones you cannot.

Attacking along the ridge

Attacks succeed by seizing one rise at a time, not by running the length of the dam. Take a rise, set a player watching behind, then move to the next. If the attack stalls, reset to the last rise you fully control — a stalled attack on the crest is a surrounded attack, because the defenders can shoot down onto your retreat.

Defending the crest

Defenders win by depth, not by a single line. Set three positions: a forward listening post, a main firing position on a rise, and a fallback structure. When attackers take the forward post, fall back to the main position — not off the dam. Giving up the crest to hold a lower structure turns a strong defensive map into a losing one.

Vehicle note

Vehicles have limited room to maneuver on the crest and are most useful holding the approach ends rather than fighting on the ridge itself. Which vehicles spawn here depends on the current rotation, so check the deploy screen before you plan a crew around one; the vehicle guide covers general crew discipline.
