Helldivers 2 Best Warbond to Buy First

Pick your first Warbond by the gap in your free kit, not by a tier list. Three gaps, three answers, and the credit maths that pays for it.

Gap one: you cannot kill armor

The free kit handles light and medium infantry and struggles the moment a Charger, Hulk or Harvester walks in. If that is your wall — and for most players at difficulty 4 to 6 it is — the answer is Democratic Detonation. Thermite sticks to armor and burns through it without needing a firing angle, the explosive crossbow clears a chokepoint without a line of sight, and the Eruptor gives a primary slot something to say about heavy units. Steeled Veterans is the alternative: the JAR-5 Dominator hits hard enough to matter against medium armor, and the P-4 Senator is a sidearm that behaves like a rifle. Both tracks are older than everything else on the shelf, which means both have been through the most balance passes.

Gap two: you drown in swarms

If your deaths come from being surrounded rather than from one big enemy, an anti-armor track fixes nothing. Freedom’s Flame hands you the SG-451 Cookout and the Torcher, and fire does two jobs at once: it kills the front rank and makes the second rank walk through it. Chemical Agents is the slower version of the same idea — gas denies a corridor and keeps denying it after you stop shooting. Pick fire if you want the swarm dead now. Pick gas if your problem is holding a line while three other players do objectives.

Gap three: you cannot get anywhere

Some players die because they arrive late and leave last. Viper Commandos sells movement and stamina through Peak Physique and the jungle kit, and it fixes a different failure than any weapon does. Urban Legends adds the Directional Shield and stun lance, which is the closest the game gets to a portable wall. This is the track to buy last unless you already know mobility is your problem, because it changes nothing about the two enemies that actually kill you.

The credit maths that changes the decision

A Premium track returns 300 Super Credits across its three pages. Helldivers Mobilize! returns 750. Clear the free track properly and you are most of the way to your first purchase without spending anything, which is why “farm credits first, decide later” beats every impulse buy. Do not buy a Legendary track first. At 1,500 credits with no credit stack inside, a crossover track costs more than twice what a Premium track costs after rebate, and it is built around one collaboration’s aesthetic rather than a combat role.

What to buy second

After your first fix, buy the track that answers the other faction. Bots and squids reward precision and shield-breaking; Terminids reward sustained area damage. Buying both sides of that split early means you stop rebuilding your loadout from scratch every time the Major Order moves. The full release list and pricing sits in the Warbond index; how Super Credits actually drop decides how fast any of this happens.
