The cause

Squint’s quest depends on a specific artifact. Players who treated it as loot and sold it to a trader found that Squint’s dialogue never triggered the next step — the item was gone and the script had no fallback. The fix

Patch 1.4, released May 15, 2025, explicitly fixed the issue where selling Squint’s artifact prevented the conversation.
