ARC Raiders Armor: Shields, Plates and What to Wear
Armour in this game is layered and each layer fails differently. How shield and health interact when you take a hit.
Two resources, one bar in your head
Your survivability comes from a shield layer and a health pool, and they behave differently. The shield absorbs and regenerates; health does not. That distinction decides when you should disengage. Taking damage on the shield is cheap; taking it on health is the beginning of the end of the raid.
Armour tiers and what they buy
Higher tiers absorb more before failing, which matters most in the fights you did not choose. The value is not in winning duels, it is in surviving a machine ambush long enough to break line of sight. Against heavily armed opponents, no armour tier makes you trade evenly. It buys you time, not immunity.
Weight and mobility
Heavier armour slows you, and in a game where disengaging is the primary survival skill, speed is worth more than raw protection. The practical answer for most players is mid-tier armour: enough to survive a mistake, light enough to leave.
What to spend on
Armour that covers the fights you actually get into. If you die to machines, machine-resistant protection matters; if you die to players, the reverse. Buying the most expensive set and losing it in a raid where you never fired a shot is the worst outcome in the game economically.
Durability
Armour degrades and needs repair or replacement. A damaged set protects less, which means the true cost of a heavy kit is maintenance rather than purchase.
The honest recommendation
Run the best armour you can afford to lose twice. That threshold keeps you protected without making you cautious, and cautious play loses more gear than aggressive play does.
What each death tells you
After every death, decide whether the armour failed or the position did. Armour failures look like dying while moving between cover; position failures look like dying without ever seeing the shooter. Only the first is solved by buying better armour, and most deaths are the second.
