ARC Raiders Repair: Durability Is a Budget

Every item wears out and repair costs materials. What to repair, what to replace, and when to let it go.

Everything degrades

Weapons and gear lose durability through use and through death. Repairing restores function and costs materials, which makes maintenance a running expense rather than an occasional task. Players who ignore it discover that their best weapon is performing worse than a fresh one.

Repair versus replace

The rule is economic: repair if the repair cost is less than the value of the item, replace if it is not. Common gear usually is not worth repairing past a point, because replacements are cheap and plentiful. Rare gear almost always is, because replacements are not.

What to repair first

The items whose condition affects your survival: armour and primary weapon. A degraded weapon jams or loses accuracy at the exact moment you need it. Cosmetic and secondary items can wait.

The death problem

Dying costs durability in addition to whatever you lost. That means a raid that ends badly is a double expense, and it is why prolonged fights against uncertain odds are expensive even when you win.

Materials for repair

Repair materials compete with crafting materials. That is a real tension: the metal you spend repairing is metal you cannot spend building. Keeping a modest stock of both, rather than dumping everything into one, is the practical answer.

When to let gear go

When the repair cost approaches the replacement cost. When you have a better item waiting. When the item is a liability because it makes you play cautiously. The last one matters more than it sounds: gear you are afraid to lose makes you worse at the game, and worse play loses more gear.

Repair before the raid, not after

Repairing at the end of a session feels efficient and it is the wrong order. Gear condition is what you take into the next raid, and a weapon sitting at half condition in your stash is a weapon that will fail in the first fight. Make the bench stop part of the end-of-raid routine, alongside selling loot and restocking ammunition.
