Battlefield 6 Settings Keep Resetting: Fix and File Location

Why BF6 settings reset after updates, where the settings files live, and how to make your configuration stick

You tune your sensitivity, an update ships, and everything is back to default. BF6 resets settings more often than it should. Here is why and how to stop it.

Why it happens

Battlefield 6 stores settings locally in your Documents folder under the game’s own directory. The settings folder holds your control bindings, graphics options, and audio mix.

Three things wipe it:

  • A game update that rewrites the settings schema. Old files fail validation and get replaced.
  • A corrupted settings file after a crash.
  • A conflict between your local file and the cloud copy tied to your EA account.

The fix

  1. Close the game and the EA app completely.
  2. Open Documents and find the Battlefield 6 folder.
  3. Open the settings folder inside it and rename the settings files, adding .old to each.
  4. Relaunch the game. It builds fresh files.
  5. Reapply your options, then close normally so the files save cleanly.

If the EA app is syncing settings, sign out before step two. Sign back in after the new files exist so the clean version uploads.

Backing up your settings

Once you have a configuration you like, copy the settings folder somewhere safe. After each update, restore the backup before launching. If the game resets anyway, the update changed the format and you must reconfigure once. Keep a separate copy per platform too — PC and console do not share a settings file even when they share one EA account.

What resets mean for you

Only local preferences reset. Your rank, unlocks, weapons, and cosmetics live on EA’s servers. A settings wipe costs you a session of tweaking, not progress.

Xbox and PlayStation

Console settings live in the console’s local save data. If they reset after every launch, delete the game’s saved data from the console storage menu and let it rebuild. The Xbox crash fix covers the console-specific steps.

Once they stick, the best settings guide is where to spend the tuning instead of re-entering it every patch.
