Battlefield 6 Black Screen Fix: PC and Xbox
Fix the Battlefield 6 black screen on PC and Xbox: file verification, drivers, overlays, anti-cheat requirements, and the settings that cause launch
A black screen at launch usually means one of a handful of things, and most of them are fixable in under ten minutes. Work down this list in order. The PC causes come first because they are the most common, and the console fixes are at the bottom.
PC fixes
- Verify game files in the EA app. A corrupted install is the single most common cause, and verification catches it in minutes.
- Update your GPU driver to the latest release. Launch-day black screens were frequently driver-related.
- Disable overlays. Xbox Game Bar, Discord, GeForce Experience, and similar overlays can black out the game on launch. Turn them all off and test.
- Toggle display mode. Switch between exclusive fullscreen and borderless once, then back. This resets the swap chain after a bad first boot.
- Check Secure Boot and TPM. Battlefield 6’s anti-cheat requires Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 enabled on PC. If either is off in BIOS, the game can black-screen at launch. Enable both, then restart.
- Reset video settings. A resolution or refresh rate your display rejects produces a black menu. Clear your settings from the game’s options menu, or follow the settings reset fix guide.
Xbox fixes
Hard-restart the console by holding the power button until it shuts down, unplug it for a minute, then retry. If the black screen persists on Xbox, follow the Xbox crash fix guide — most console black screens share a cause with crashes.
Still black after all of this
Check the Battlefield 6 crash fix guide for the deeper Windows-level fixes, and look up any error code in the error codes guide. If the launcher itself black-screens, the problem is usually the EA app rather than the game — reinstalling it fixes the issue more often than reinstalling Battlefield 6 does.
