Destiny 2 Crucible Guide for Beginners
Crucible is Destiny 2's PvP. Control the space, respect resilience, and use special ammo on duels — not trash.
Crucible feels brutal when you arrive from PvE. Enemies aim back, and the habits that carried you through Strikes get you killed in seconds. PvP is a different game with its own rules, and a few basics keep you alive.
Learn the Control playlist first
Control is the core mode and the best place to learn. Capture zones, hold them, and the points accumulate. Map control matters more than your kill count in most matches.
Resilience, range, and special ammo
Resilience is not just PvE padding here. Higher resilience changes how many shots you survive in a duel, and duels decide matches. Do not ignore it because you are used to PvE tolerance.
Range wins gunfights. Weapons lose damage and accuracy at distance, so fight at the range your gun prefers. Our PvP weapons guide breaks down the archetypes that win.
Special ammo is limited, so do not waste it on trash. In Crucible there is no trash, but there is overcommitting: do not burn your special round on a duel you already lost. Save it for the fight you can win.
Positioning wins more duels
Positioning beats Power every time. Use cover, peek, and disengage when low. Standing in the open is how new players feed the enemy team.
Play the objective, not just the kill. A captured zone scores while you survive, and survival is a skill you build match by match.
Our weapon slots guide explains ammo types, and our common mistakes guide covers dying in the open.
Improve one death at a time
Queue with a friend if the solo queue feels lonely, since communication covers many mistakes. Watch one death in your head and find the moment you were exposed. Improvement in Crucible is mostly awareness, not aim. Play the long game and the wins come.
Control the space, respect resilience, and spend special ammo on duels you can win — Crucible rewards patience over aggression.
