The Finals Aim Assist on Controller: How It Works
Controller players get aim assist mouse players do not. Learn what it does and its limits
What aim assist does
On controller, aim assist helps snap and track when your crosshair is near a target. It is strongest in close fights and weaker at long range. It exists to close part of the gap to mouse-and-keyboard precision, not to erase it.
Assist helps you aim, but you still have to win the fight.
Where it helps and where it does not
Assist shines in close and mid range where you track a moving body. At long range, or against a Heavy behind an LMG, it cannot fix bad positioning or slow reactions. Do not rely on it to out-duel a good mouse player who is already holding the angle.
Use it to land shots you would miss, not to win aim battles.
Using it well
Let the assist do the micro-adjustment while you handle movement and positioning. Track at chest height and let assist finish to the head. Combine with cover so the assist has time to work, and avoid long-range pokes where the pull is faint.
Assist rewards good aim placement.
Common mistakes
Relying on assist to win a raw aim duel against a mouse player is the fastest way to lose one; it fixes small errors, not positioning. Fighting at long range where the pull barely exists wastes the feature. And letting assist do all the work while you ignore movement and cover turns a helper into a crutch.
Frequently asked questions
Does aim assist work at long range? Weakly. It shines in close and mid range but cannot fix bad positioning against a good mouse player.
Is assist the same on PC? No, it is a controller feature. Mouse-and-keyboard players do not get the same snap and track help.
Should I lower the strength? If the pull fights your tracking on fast targets, turn it down; a weaker pull you control beats a strong one that drags you off.
Behaviour changes with your input device, and the controller settings page covers the curve that matches it; the best settings page covers the sensitivity side.
