Hunt: Showdown Prestige: What You Lose and Gain

Prestige resets your bloodline, roster, traits and equipment. What survives, what the reward actually is, and who should not bother.

What resets

Bloodline rank returns to 1. Your hunter roster is emptied. Stockpiled equipment and hunt dollars are cleared, and you start again with 8,000 hunt dollars. Every tool, consumable and trait goes back behind its rank gate, and weapon variants you had unlocked lock again.

What survives

The base version of every weapon family stays available, and so does every non-scarce ammo type. Skipped weapon variants and scarce ammo have to be re-earned. Every cosmetic you bought, every legendary hunter you own and every skin stays โ€” you keep the skin, you just pay the 100 hunt dollars to recruit the hunter again. That combination is why prestige is survivable. You are not returned to a naked account; you are returned to an account with the full base arsenal and no traits.

The reward

Each prestige level pays a reward, and at many levels the reward is a choice: a random legendary skin, a stack of hunt dollars, or a 10% XP boost that lasts until you prestige again. Individual levels also carry fixed cosmetics and hunter unlocks, and the badge itself is visible on your account and to players you kill. Prestige goes up to 100. Most players stop far earlier because the rewards are cosmetic and the cost is a full re-grind of the trait tree.

Who should prestige

Prestige when you have stopped caring about the current rank and want the XP you earn to mean something again. The reset re-opens progression, which for a player with 400 hours is the only thing left to open. Do not prestige if you are still learning the game, if you play mostly solo and rely on specific traits, or if you are close to a cosmetic you want on the current track. The 10% boost option is a trap for anyone who prestiges slowly: it pays out over a long stretch of play and vanishes the moment you reset again.

The efficient route if you do it

Retire hunters at level 50 rather than gambling them. Retirement pays 10,000 bloodline XP flat, which is the largest guaranteed source in the game, and trait-based ways to avoid death exist but cost you the guarantee. Then treat the climb as a loadout experiment: with the trait tree stripped, you rediscover which weapons work without support. That is the one genuine benefit of the reset, and the trait rankings show how much of your usual kit was actually carrying you. If the re-grind is what puts you off, the bloodline rank page shows how fast the levels actually come back.
