KCD2 A Sinful Soul: How to Unlock the Hermit Quest
A Sinful Soul only unlocks during The Hermit in KCD2. Exhaust Betty's Hermit talk, follow the clues, then speak to him. Killing him first loses the quest.
Where A Sinful Soul comes from
The Hermit is a Trosky side quest you pick up at Bozhena’s Hut. The Hermit himself is a reluctant, guarded character, and A Sinful Soul is the deeper wish he will only share if you earn it. The trigger is not the Hermit directly — it is the preparation you do with Innkeeper Betty at Bozhena’s Hut before you ever confront him.
Step 1 — Exhaust Betty’s Hermit dialogue
When you speak to Betty, keep asking about the Hermit until her dialogue on the subject runs out. Players who skip this — who go straight to the Hermit — never get the opening for A Sinful Soul. The extra questions are what plant the thread.
Step 2 — Follow the optional clues
During The Hermit there are optional investigation steps tied to what Betty told you. Follow them rather than rushing to the confrontation. These clues are the bridge that lets you recognize the Hermit’s hidden guilt when you finally talk to him.
Step 3 — Use what you learned on the Hermit
When you speak to the Hermit, the knowledge from Betty and the clues lets you draw out his final wish — the “sinful soul” he wants settled in exchange for the sword he holds. Complete that, and A Sinful Soul resolves.
The mistake that ends it
If you kill the Hermit during The Hermit, A Sinful Soul is gone. He is the only source of the quest, so removing him removes the option with no fallback. Do not treat the Hermit as a combat encounter unless you have already finished A Sinful Soul.
Why it matters for completion
A Sinful Soul is one of the three genuine Trosky timing traps — alongside Demons of Trosky and the Gules Semine chain — covered on the Trosky missable quests page. If an NPC from that arc later seems missing, the NPC diagnostic page explains the cause. Do the Betty dialogue and the clues in one sitting during The Hermit so you never have to reload for it.
