Phasmophobia DOTS Projector: Catching the Silhouette

The D.O.T.S. Projector shows a silhouette walking through its green grid, but some ghosts only appear on camera. Includes the Goryo's camera-only rule.

The D.O.T.S. Projector throws a grid of green laser dots across the room, and when a ghost with this evidence passes through, a translucent silhouette appears inside the pattern for a moment. It is easy to miss because it is fast and faint.

What counts

A ghost silhouette moving through the D.O.T.S. grid confirms the evidence. The green dots alone do nothing; you are watching for the figure.

Which ghosts show on DOTS

Thirteen ghosts have D.O.T.S.: Aswang, Banshee, Deildegast, Deogen, Goryo, Obambo, Oni, Phantom, Raiju, Thaye, Wraith, Yokai, and Yurei. The evidence cheat sheet has the full list.

How to place and watch it

  • Point the projector across the favorite room at roughly chest height so the grid covers the walkable floor.
  • Watch the live feed on the truck monitor as well as in person — D.O.T.S. silhouettes are visible through the video camera, and one player can camp the monitor while others test other evidence.
  • Keep the room’s lighting in mind: the projector is easier to read in dim conditions.
  • Give it time. A silhouette may take several passes of the ghost through the grid.

The Goryo exception

The Goryo only appears on the D.O.T.S. projector through a video camera and only when no one is in the room. In person, with a teammate standing there, you may never see it. This is why a camera-watched projector angled at the favorite room is the single best D.O.T.S. setup in the game — it catches the Goryo when a room-camping team would miss it entirely.

Common mistakes

Watching only in person and never checking the monitor. Placing the projector on the floor so the grid sits below the ghost’s body. And leaving the room brightly lit. On reduced-evidence difficulties D.O.T.S. is often one of the hidden pieces, so a blank grid proves nothing — see the difficulty breakdown. The identification order guide shows how a camera-watched projector slots into the fastest investigation route.
