Phasmophobia Ouija Board: Questions, Sanity and Risk
The Ouija Board can hand you the ghost room in seconds, but at low sanity it breaks and starts a cursed hunt. How to use it without a wipe.
The Ouija Board is the most direct information tool in Phasmophobia: ask the ghost a question and it may answer, including telling you where it is. The cost is sanity, and at low sanity the board breaks and launches a cursed hunt.
What it does
Placed on the ground and activated, the board lets you ask recognised questions. “Where are you?” can reveal the ghost room, which is the fastest legitimate way to skip the search phase. Each question drains sanity, and the board can also produce an interaction you can read with an EMF reader.
How to use it
- Activate it early or mid-investigation, while the team still has sanity to spend.
- Have your evidence tools ready before you ask — if you want an EMF read from the interaction, be positioned to catch it.
- Ask one clear question at a time and read the answer before asking again.
- Say “Goodbye” (or dismiss it) when done; leaving it active keeps draining you.
The risk
Every question costs sanity. If your sanity drops too low while the board is in use, it breaks and starts a cursed hunt with no warning. That is why the board is a “spend sanity to buy time” tool, not a panic button — using it at 20% sanity is how teams wipe.
Best use case and mistake to avoid
Use it when you cannot find the room and still have sanity headroom. The classic mistake is spamming questions on a shaky meter, which turns a clean investigation into a cursed hunt. Keep a hiding spot and smudge ready before you touch it.

Only ask what you cannot get free
The board is a trade of sanity for information, and it only pays when the answer changes what you do next. Questions you can answer for free — the room you are already standing in, a location the ghost is actively haunting — spend sanity for nothing. What pays are the things no other tool gives you: whether the ghost is in this room right now, and how it reacts when you press it. Ask few, ask deliberately, and keep a count of questions in your head rather than reconstructing it afterwards. The sanity management page covers the budget and cursed possessions thresholds the risk.
