Phasmophobia Summoning Circle: Lighting It Safely

The Summoning Circle forces the ghost to appear in front of you, but low sanity makes it hunt instantly with no stun. When and how to light it safely.

The Summoning Circle is the most dramatic cursed possession: light its five candles and the ghost manifests in front of you. It is also the highest-risk one, because at low sanity the ghost can hunt immediately with no stun window.

What it does

The circle is immovable — you interact with it using a lighter or a lit candle, not by picking it up. Lighting all five candles summons the ghost to the circle, which is useful for a photo objective, a controlled manifestation, or confirming presence. The manifestation is short and the ghost then breaks free.

The risk

Each lit candle deducts 16% sanity from nearby players, so a full light costs 80% — that is the real price, and it is charged before you get anything back. If your sanity is too low when you finish lighting the candles, the ghost can hunt instantly without the normal brief stun that would let you escape. That turns a “controlled manifestation” into an ambush at point-blank range. This is why the circle is a setup tool, not a panic button.

How to use it

  • Restore sanity first. Pills before you light it, not after.
  • Know your escape route and where the nearest hiding spot is before the last candle.
  • Have team members positioned to photograph the manifestation and then retreat.
  • Light it as a planned play when the team is ready for a hunt, not when you are already in trouble.

Best use case and mistake to avoid

Best for prepared teams wanting a controlled manifestation and already knowing where they will run. The mistake is using it as an emergency button when sanity is low — that is exactly when it kills you. Treat low sanity as a hard stop.

Line up the photo before the last candle

The manifestation is short, so treat the circle as a photo-objective tool first. Assign one player to the camera and have them framed on the circle before the final candle is lit, with a second player ready to light the candles from a safe angle. Once the ghost appears, take the shot and retreat immediately rather than lingering for a second look — the free camera beat is the whole reward, and it is not worth a death.
