STALKER 2 'The Edge': Zalissya Stalkers All Dead
The Edge could start wrong when every stalker in Zalissya was dead, creating a broken objective. Patch 1.4 (May 2025) fixed it. Gone on version 2.0.
The cause
The Edge’s start condition was tied to the population of Zalissya. When the settlement’s stalkers were wiped out (by the player or by faction war), the quest could fire at the wrong moment or with no valid NPC to drive it, producing a softlock. It was a world-state dependency bug, the kind that only shows up in certain playthroughs.
The fix
Patch 1.4 (May 15, 2025) corrected the condition so the quest no longer starts incorrectly when Zalissya is depopulated. Multiple published 1.4 patch-note translations list this fix. On any build at or after 1.4 — and the game is now on version 2.0 from August 2026 — the bug should not reproduce.
What to do if it recurs
If you are current and still see a broken Edge start, suspect a pre-1.4 save or a mod. Reload an earlier save. Console players (no console commands, per the host blind-spot page) have no force-skip and must rely on the reload, which is fine here because the base game is fixed.
How to confirm this is the bug
Confirm the symptom before reloading: The Edge begins while Zalissya is depopulated, and the resulting objective is either a duplicate of one you already have or an impossible step with no valid NPC driving it. If the quest simply has not started because you have not reached its trigger, that is normal progression, not this bug. The quest diagnostic framework helps you tell a mistimed start from a genuine block, so you reload the right save rather than replaying content you did not need to.
Broader context
The Edge is one of the named quest fixes in the 1.4 update, which cleared a large batch of blockers including “A Needle in a Haystack,” “Hot on the Trail,” “Vision of Truth,” “Last Wish,” “Legend of the Zone,” “Law and Order,” and “Like Old Times.” For any stuck objective, the quest diagnostic framework is the right starting point.
