How Thermal Vision highlights heat signatures

Thermal Vision works as a toggle. While active, it highlights opponents in a bright overlay that cuts through smoke, gas, and dark corners. You keep your normal weapon handling, so the value is pure information: you see first, you swing first. It pairs well with aggressive Light kits that already rely on flanks and quick entries.

Thermal Vision replaced by True Sight in Season 12

There is a catch with timing. Thermal Vision was disabled after Season 8 because of persistent bugs, and Embark did not return it in its old form. In Season 12, launched in October 2026, the studio reworked the idea into True Sight, a Light specialization tied to the Infiltrator playstyle. True Sight highlights enemies and deployables in your team color, sees through environmental smoke and Smoke Grenades, and exposes cloaked or disguised players. It drains an energy meter while active, so it is not free permanent vision.

Because the feature has changed form across seasons, treat the exact tuning as something to confirm in your client. Open the Light build menu and check whether you see Thermal Vision or True Sight before you plan a loadout around it. The core lesson holds either way: it is an anti-stealth tool first.

Using True Sight against smoke and cloaked Lights

Use it against Cloaking Device Lights, against teams that spam Smoke Grenades, and when you hold a sightline you cannot physically watch.
