All 30 VALORANT Agents: Role and Unlock Cost
Every VALORANT agent grouped by the four roles, with how each one unlocks — the five free starters, Kingdom Credits, VP, and the 28-day recruitment event.
VALORANT hit 30 playable agents with the Patch 13.09 arrival of Hush. That is a lot of roster to digest when you are still learning which role even fits how you like to play. This page lists all 30 agents by role and shows exactly how each one unlocks, so you can plan your roster before you spend a single Kingdom Credit.
New to the game? The VALORANT hub covers the basics, and our agent unlock guide breaks down the free path in detail.
The four roles, and who fills them
Riot sorts every agent into one of four roles. The role tells you what the agent is built to do in a round, not just what their abilities look like:
- Controller — split sites, block vision, and force enemies into tight angles. Astra, Brimstone, Clove, Harbor, Miks, Omen, Viper.
- Duelist — self-sufficient fraggers who open the site first. Hush, Iso, Jett, Neon, Phoenix, Raze, Reyna, Waylay, Yoru.
- Initiator — probe, flash, and flush defenders out of corners before the entry. Breach, Fade, Gekko, KAY/O, Skye, Sova, Tejo.
- Sentinel — lock down sites, watch flanks, and hold post-plant. Chamber, Cypher, Deadlock, Killjoy, Sage, Veto, Vyse.
If you have played another tactical shooter, the role logic is the same idea as Rainbow Six Siege’s operator roles — the role matters more than the individual name.
All 30 agents and how they unlock
Five agents are free from the moment you create an account. Every other agent costs either 1,000 VALORANT Points (paid) or 8,000 Kingdom Credits (earned by playing), or can be claimed with a Free Agent Token.

The cheapest way to unlock agents
Kingdom Credits are the free currency: you earn them by playing any mode, and 8,000 KC unlocks any single agent. You cannot buy KC with real money, which is the whole point — it is the slow, free route.
The fast free route is the 28-day Agent Recruitment Event that runs when a new agent launches. During that window you can unlock the new agent free by earning 200,000 XP, but Kingdom Credits and Free Agent Tokens are switched off for that agent — you have to use the XP path. Hush is the current example: her event opened with Patch 13.09.
If you subscribe to Xbox Game Pass, every agent is unlocked while the subscription is active, and the Range and All Random One Site modes unlock the full roster for practice regardless.
Which role should you learn first
Start with the role whose job matches how you already like to fight. Duelists reward confident aim and entry aggression; Controllers reward game sense and map control; Initiators reward timing and teamwork; Sentinels reward patience and holding angles. Our agent unlock guide covers the free path, and the economy guide explains why saving your credits early matters more than rushing a new agent.
