How to Play Fade in Valorant

Fade is an Initiator who reveals and hunts enemies with creatures that mark and fear them. Unlike Sova, whose recon is ranged and quiet, Fade’s kit actively drives enemies out of cover and pins them in place, making her one of the most aggressive info agents in the game.

Fade’s Role: The Hunting Initiator

Fade’s job is to locate the enemy and then disrupt them so your team can clean up. Her reveals come with a fear or slow effect, which means a Fade who finds the enemy also softens them. She is strongest on attack, where her Prowlers can flush defenders off angles. See our Valorant roles explained guide for how Initiators enable entries.

Fade’s Abilities Explained

Terror Trail (Passive)

Free · passive

Any enemy damaged by Fade’s abilities is marked with a trail that reveals their location for a short time. This passive turns every hit into free information.

Prowler (Basic)

250 credits · 2 charges · C

A hunting creature that travels along the ground toward the nearest enemy and fears them on contact. Aim it down lanes and common holds to force enemies off their angle.

Seize (Basic)

200 credits · 1 charge · Q

A thrown orb that reveals and then roots enemies in an area. It is excellent for locking down a spot before your team pushes in.

Haunt (Signature)

1 charge · 60-second restock · E

An eye that reveals enemies in a radius where it lands. Like Sova’s Recon Bolt, it is your round-start scan — but Fade’s reveals also set up her fear and root tools.

Nightfall (Ultimate)

8 ultimate points · X

A wall of unwind that reveals and deafens every enemy it touches across the map. It is one of the best ultimate-round openers in the game for a full-site execute.

Two free scans, and a passive that pays for the rest

Haunt is a signature with a 60-second restock, which in a 100-second round means Fade gets a second eye before the round is over. Most Fade players fire one Haunt at round start and forget the ability exists; the second one is worth more, because by then you know which half of the site the defenders are actually holding.

Terror Trail is what makes the expensive abilities cheaper than they look. Prowler costs 250 credits and Seize costs 200, but any damage they deal marks the target for the whole team — so a Seize that clips one enemy is not just a root, it is a free reveal on everyone nearby. Two Prowlers at 500 credits is the priciest part of her kit, which is exactly why you aim them down lanes you already suspect rather than throwing them into unknown space.

How to Play Fade: Reveal and Disrupt

The best Fade players open the round with Haunt on the likely defensive positions, then follow with Prowlers down the lanes those enemies hold. Seize an angle you want cleared, then walk in behind the fear. Nightfall should be saved for a committed execute or a desperate retake. Because Terror Trail reveals anyone you touch, even a missed Prowler that clips an enemy gives your team a free read. If your aim needs work to close these fights, our aim routine guide will help.

Common Mistakes Fade Players Make

  • Throwing Prowlers into walls where they never reach an enemy.
  • Using Haunt too late, after the team has already committed blind.
  • Wasting Nightfall on a single enemy instead of a site execute.
  • Forgetting that Seize roots, then pushing without using the window.

How to Counter Fade

Fade’s reveals are loud and telegraphed. Break line of sight the instant a Haunt or Prowler appears, and do not clump — Seize and Nightfall punish groups. Reposition after being marked, because her Terror Trail only lasts a moment.

Fade rewards aggressive, map-aware play. Compare her with other Initiators on the full agent roster before locking her in.
