How to Play Neon in Valorant

Neon is a Duelist defined by speed. Her slide and wall-based abilities let her blow past angles other agents cannot reach, making her a aggressive entry fragger who thrives on tempo. She rewards confident aim and fast decision-making.

Neon’s Role: The Speed Entry Duelist

Neon’s job is to take space fast and force the enemy to react before they are ready. Where Jett uses vertical mobility, Neon uses horizontal speed to collapse on a site. She fits teams that want a hyper-aggressive entry. See our Valorant roles explained guide for how Duelists slot into a composition.

Neon’s Abilities Explained

Energy (Passive)

Neon builds an energy meter by dealing damage and over time. When it fills, she can slide with High Gear. Managing this meter is the core of playing her well.

Fast Lane (Basic)

300 credits · 1 charge · C

Two lines of electricity that block vision and damage enemies who pass through them. Use them to cut off an angle or to wall off a defender during an entry.

Relay Bolt (Basic)

200 credits · 1 charge · Q

A bolt that bounces off walls and concusses enemies it hits. Bounce it around corners to stun someone holding an unexpected angle.

High Gear (Signature)

1 charge · 2-kill recharge · E

Neon’s signature slide: at full energy she can dash at high speed and fire while sliding, letting her cross open ground that would get any other agent killed.

Overdrive (Ultimate)

8 ultimate points · X

Neon equips a pair of high-fire-rate energy pistols that deal heavy damage, and she can slide while using them. It is a pure aggressive ultimate for taking and holding space.

Free to cast, two kills to refill

Neon’s slide costs no credits, which makes it look like the cheap part of her kit. It is not. High Gear comes back only after two kills, so the slide you burn to cross open ground is the slide you do not have for the second entry — the same recharge rule Jett lives under, and the reason aggressive Neon players die after their first pick.

The bought half is the most expensive wall-and-stun pair in her class. Fast Lane is 300 credits for a single charge and Relay Bolt is 200, so a fully equipped Neon has spent 500 on utility before a gun. On a half-buy that choice is real: the wall at 300 buys the entry, and the bolt at 200 is the one to drop, because a bounce stun you cannot aim is worth less than the rifle you could not afford.

How to Play Neon: Use the Slide

The strongest Neon players slide into an angle, take the duel, then slide out before the enemy can reframe. Do not slide into a site with no info — you will cross open ground straight into a waiting enemy. Pair Fast Lane with your entry so you are not fully exposed, and use Relay Bolt to stun someone peeking the lane you are sliding through. If your crosshair placement is inconsistent, our crosshair guide will help you hit these fast entries.

Common Mistakes Neon Players Make

  • Sliding into sites with no utility or team follow-up.
  • Wasting Energy on a slide that goes nowhere.
  • Holding Fast Lane when a teammate already smoked the angle.
  • Popping Overdrive without a clear target.

How to Counter Neon

Neon’s whole identity is speed, so slowing or trapping her breaks the plan. Killjoy’s Alarmbot and Cypher’s Trapwire punish predictable slide paths, and a well-placed smoke denies her the lane she needs. Pre-fire the corner she will slide into.

Neon rewards aggression backed by mechanics. Compare her with other Duelists on the full agent roster before committing her to ranked.
