How to Play Reyna in Valorant: Ability Guide and Tips
Reyna is Valorant's self-sustaining Duelist who heals and escapes on kills. Learn how Leer, Devour, Dismiss, and Empress work, plus mistakes to avoid.
How to Play Reyna in Valorant
Reyna is a Duelist built entirely around fragging. Her kit has almost no team utility — instead, every kill powers her healing, invulnerability, and damage buffs. That makes her the ultimate “win your duel and survive” agent, but also one that punishes players who cannot secure kills.
Reyna’s Role: The Self-Sustaining Duelist
Reyna’s job is to win isolated fights and stay alive long enough to win the next one. Where Jett uses mobility to take angles, Reyna uses Leer to blind and then Devour or Dismiss to outlast the enemy. She is strongest in lower ranks where enemies peek one at a time. Our Valorant roles explained guide explains where Duelists fit on a team.
Reyna’s Abilities Explained
Soul Harvest (Passive)
Every enemy Reyna downs drops a soul orb. These orbs power her Devour and Dismiss and expire if not consumed quickly, so timing your pickup matters.
Leer (Basic)
250 credits · 2 charges · C
A thrown eye that nearsights every enemy who looks at it. It is her entry tool: pop Leer, then swing the blinded enemy.
Devour (Signature)
2 charges shared with Dismiss · first free, extra 200 credits · Q
Consume a soul orb to heal rapidly. Use it after a kill to stay healthy for the next fight instead of rotating weak.
Dismiss (Signature)
2 charges shared with Devour · first free, extra 200 credits · E
Consume a soul orb to become invulnerable briefly. This is Reyna’s escape tool after a risky pick, letting her reposition safely.
Empress (Ultimate)
7 ultimate points · X
A buff that increases fire rate and movement speed and refreshes on kills. Empress turns Reyna into a rampaging duelist, but it still ends if she stops getting kills.
Two orbs, not four
Devour and Dismiss share their charges — two between them, not two each. That single number decides how a Reyna round is supposed to run: one heal and one escape, and after that you are a rifle with a blind no matter how many kills you get. Reyna players who burn both Dismisses on repositioning arrive at the next fight with no heal available.
The soul orb only waits three seconds, so the decision has to be made in the fight rather than after it. That is what makes the passive the hardest part of her kit: a kill in the open drops an orb in the open, and chasing it is often worse than leaving it.
Leer is her only paid ability at 250 credits for two charges, and it is the one that makes the other numbers reachable. Without the blind there is no isolated duel, and without the duel there are no orbs.
How to Play Reyna: Win the Duel, Then Survive
Reyna’s loop is simple: Leer an angle, take the duel, then Devour or Dismiss on the orb. Never waste Leer on an enemy you cannot reach, and never hoard orbs — they expire. The biggest Reyna sin is overextending for a kill and dying before consuming the orb. If your mechanics are the bottleneck, our aim routine guide will help you convert more of these duels, and our crosshair guide will tighten your placement.
Common Mistakes Reyna Players Make
- Throwing Leer where enemies are not looking at it.
- Dying with an unused soul orb because they forgot to Devour.
- Using Dismiss to show off instead of to escape.
- Pushing a 1v3 with Empress and assuming the buff wins the fight.
How to Counter Reyna
Reyna has no team utility, so the way to beat her is to deny isolated fights. Stick together so she cannot pick you one by one, and play angles where Leer does not cover you. After she downs a teammate, pre-aim her exit — she will often Dismiss and rotate predictably.
Reyna is the purest test of individual skill in Valorant. Weigh her against other Duelists on the full agent roster before committing her to ranked.
