How to Play Sage in Valorant

Sage is a Sentinel built around healing and control. She is the only agent who can revive a fallen teammate, which makes her one of the most impactful supports in the game and a staple in every rank. She is also one of the easiest agents for new players to contribute with.

Sage’s Role: The Support Sentinel

Sage’s job is to keep her team alive and to slow or block the enemy’s push. Her heal and revive directly extend rounds, while her wall and slow orb shape where fights happen. She anchors a site and enables retakes. Our Valorant roles explained guide covers how Sentinels hold a defense.

Sage’s Abilities Explained

Barrier Orb (Basic)

300 credits · 1 charge · C

A solid wall that blocks movement and vision. You can place it to split a site, block a choke, or create a one-way angle. It is destructible, so do not treat it as permanent cover.

Slow Orb (Basic)

200 credits · 2 charges · Q

A thrown orb that creates a slowing field on the ground. Enemies walking through it are slowed, which makes it perfect for delaying a push or holding an entry.

Healing Orb (Signature)

1 charge · 45-second restock · E

Sage’s signature heals an ally or herself. A well-timed heal after a trade can win a round, so prioritize healing the teammate who is about to re-engage.

Resurrection (Ultimate)

7 ultimate points · X

Sage revives a dead ally at a location after a short channel. It is the strongest comeback tool in the game, but the channel makes her vulnerable, so only cast it when the area is clear.

Two heals a round, and one expensive wall

Healing Orb is free and restocks in 45 seconds, so a 100-second round gives Sage two full heals rather than one. That is the ability most Sage players waste: a single top-up at round start and then nothing, when the second heal is exactly what makes a retake survivable. Treat the first heal as the cheap one and hold the second for the player who is about to fight.

Barrier Orb is the opposite kind of decision. It costs 300 credits for one wall with no restock, which makes it the most expensive non-ultimate in her kit, so walling the obvious choke every round is how a Sage ends up on a pistol while her team has rifles. Two Slow Orbs cost 400 together, and a slow is often enough to stop the push the wall was meant to stop.

How to Play Sage: Keep the Team Alive

Strong Sage players heal proactively instead of waiting for a teammate to drop, and they use Barrier Orb to force the enemy into unfavorable fights. Save Slow Orb for the moment the enemy commits, not the round start. Resurrection should be held for a round-winning revive, never cast into a contested site. If you want to understand how utility creates value, our utility basics guide lays out the fundamentals.

Common Mistakes Sage Players Make

  • Holding Healing Orb too long instead of topping up a teammate.
  • Placing Barrier Orb where it blocks the team’s own angles.
  • Wasting Slow Orb on an empty lane.
  • Reviving in the open and dying during the channel.

How to Counter Sage

Sage’s value comes from her team being alive, so apply pressure that forces her to waste heals. Destroy her Barrier Orb to reopen an angle, and rush the Resurrection channel the moment she starts it. A Cypher trap or Fade reveal tells you exactly when to push.
