Valorant Sunset Map Guide: The Market Door
Sunset's mechanical door between B Market and Mid Courtyard can be closed or destroyed. Learn how that door decides rounds and the mistakes to avoid.
Valorant Sunset Map Guide: The Market Door, Callouts, and How to Play
Sunset is one of Valorant’s more traditional maps — two sites and three lanes — but it has one hook that decides a surprising number of rounds: a single mechanical door.
What Makes Sunset Different: The B Market Door
There is a mechanical door between B Market and Mid Courtyard. Players can use a switch on the Market side to open or close it.
The door has two properties that matter:
- While closed, it is impenetrable — no bullets or vision pass through.
- It has 500 HP, so players can damage and destroy it. Once destroyed, the doorway remains permanently open for the rest of the round.
That last point is the strategic core of the map. Destroying the door is a one-way decision: you gain permanent access between Mid and B Market, but you also permanently give the enemy that same access. Whether that trade favors attackers or defenders depends entirely on which site you are hitting and how the round is going.
Key Areas and Callouts
A Site is reached through A Main and A Lobby, with Elbow and the site’s back corners as the usual holding spots.
Mid runs through Mid Courtyard, which is where the door decision happens — mid control directly determines whether you can reach B Market.
B Site is reached through B Main and B Market, and the market-to-site connection is the most fought-over ground on the map.
How to Attack Sunset
Decide your door policy before the round starts. If you are executing on B, breaking the door early gives your team a permanent second entrance and splits the defenders’ attention. If you are playing a slower default or hitting A, leaving the door intact can deny defenders a fast rotate from B through mid — which cuts both ways, so make the call deliberately rather than shooting it out of habit.
Mid control is the real objective. Whoever holds Mid Courtyard can reach the door switch and threaten both sites. Pair that with smokes on the site cross you are actually hitting, and use our utility basics guide if the timing of your execute is inconsistent.
How to Defend Sunset
Defenders should use the door as a stalling tool, not a wall to hide behind. Closing it early can slow a B split and buy time for a rotate, but remember that the switch is only on the Market side, so once attackers hold Market they control the door, not you.
Because the door is destroyable, do not build a defensive plan that assumes it will stay closed. Play B site so that it can be held even with the doorway open, and keep an eye on Mid Courtyard so you are not surprised by the rotate.
Common Mistakes on Sunset
- Destroying the door reflexively without considering who benefits.
- Forgetting the switch is only on the Market side, so defenders cannot reopen it from mid.
- Building a defensive setup that collapses the moment the door is broken.
- Ignoring mid entirely and letting the attackers walk to the switch for free.
Good Agents on Sunset
Controllers are essential because both sites need specific crosses smoked rather than general cover — Omen and Brimstone both work well. Sentinels who can hold a site while the rest of the team fights for mid, like Killjoy, are strong picks.
