How to Play Vyse in Valorant: Ability Guide and Tips
Vyse is Valorant's trap Sentinel. Learn how her Razorvine, Shear, Arc Rose, and Steel Garden work, plus the setup mistakes that waste her kit.
How to Play Vyse in Valorant
Vyse is a Sentinel who fights with metal. Her kit places invisible traps that slow, wall off, blind, and ultimately jam enemy weapons, which makes her one of the strongest agents for punishing a predictable push. She rewards planning and map knowledge over reflexes.
Vyse’s Role: The Trap Sentinel
Vyse’s job is to decide where the enemy will walk and punish it before they arrive. Every one of her deployables stays hidden until something triggers it, so a well-set Vyse controls a site without ever holding an angle. Our Valorant roles explained guide covers how Sentinels anchor a defense.
Vyse’s Abilities Explained
Razorvine (Basic)
150 credits · 2 charges · C
A nest that sticks to horizontal ground and turns invisible. When triggered, vines pierce the area, slowing anyone inside and damaging them each time they move a certain distance. It is the best trap for punishing someone trying to walk out of a corner.
Shear (Basic)
200 credits · 1 charge · Q
A wall trap placed on vertical terrain. When an enemy steps past it, a metal wall rises, pushing them out and blocking both vision and movement for a few seconds. It can be recalled during the buy phase, but not once the round starts.
Arc Rose (Signature)
1 charge · 20-second restock, 60 if destroyed · E
A flash rose placed on a surface that turns invisible and blinds enemies in range when triggered. It can be placed on the opposite side of a surface with alt fire, letting you flash angles you cannot reach. Enemies can shoot and destroy it, and it deactivates if Vyse is killed or suppressed.
Steel Garden (Ultimate)
8 ultimate points · X
A torrent of metal thorns covering a large area. Any enemy caught is jammed — they cannot fire their primary weapon for the duration. It has no height limit within the playable space, making it one of the strongest site-wide ultimates in the game.
A free flash every 20 seconds
Arc Rose restocks in 20 seconds when you recall it, which is the fastest free recharge on any flash in the game. A 100-second round can hand Vyse five flashes for nothing, and unlike a duelist’s flash these are placed in advance and fire themselves. The catch is the 60-second rebuild if it is shot, so the rose is worth recalling the moment a push has been read rather than leaving it out as bait.
The rest of her kit is cheap and one-shot. Razorvine is 150 credits for two charges, Shear is 200 for one, so a fully trapped site costs 500 credits in total — less than most Sentinels spend, and the reason a Vyse can keep buying hardware on rounds where Killjoy has to choose between a swarm and a gun.
How to Play Vyse: Plan the Path
The best Vyse players think about where the enemy must step, then stack traps on that path: Razorvine on the ground they will cross, Shear on the wall beside it, Arc Rose on the surface they will face. Because all three stay hidden, the enemy walks into a layered trap. Save Steel Garden for the moment a site is being contested. If you want to understand how utility creates value, our utility basics guide lays out the fundamentals.
Common Mistakes Vyse Players Make
- Placing traps on lanes nobody uses.
- Triggering her own Arc Rose on the team.
- Wasting Steel Garden when the site is already clear.
- Forgetting that her traps reveal if she is killed or suppressed.
How to Counter Vyse
Vyse’s traps are invisible until you are close, so slow down and look. Sova’s Owl Drone and Fade’s Prowler trigger or destroy them safely, and shooting the Arc Rose on sight removes her flash. When Steel Garden jams you, fall back rather than dry-firing a useless gun.
Vyse is an advanced, map-knowledge pick. Compare her with other Sentinels on the full agent roster before committing.
