Apex Axle Guide: Kit, Upgrades and Season 30 Nerfs

Axle launched in Season 29 as a Skirmisher movement specialist and spent Season 30 at the top of the pick-rate charts — until the August 25 mid-season update cut her down. Here is the current live kit and what changed.

The base kit

• Passive — Drift: increased speed and lateral control while sliding. This is her identity: she slides farther and turns tighter than anyone.
• Tactical — Nitro Gate: deploys a gate that boosts sliding movement for Axle and any teammate who passes through it.
• Ultimate — Kickstart: launches an enemy-seeking drone that chases opponents and knocks them upward on impact.

Season 30 nerfs (August 25)

Every part of her kit was touched to “neutralize her lethal speed”:

• Tactical max slide-boost duration 5s → 3s.
• Ultimate HP 200 → 150; cooldown 90s → 120s.
• Ultimate knockback arc widened and max height reduced; stun duration 1.5s → 0.25s (the instant-delete is gone).
• The ultimate now affects Axle herself and her allies — allies are stunned and displaced but take no damage; Axle takes damage, stun, and displacement like an enemy.

Upgrade branches

• Level 2: Sliding Shooter vs Long Haul (Long Haul restores the old 5-second slide window).
• Level 3: Jump Gate vs Super Slider.
• The old Jump Gate upgrade was replaced by Drone Deployer, which pulls the ultimate cooldown back down to 90s.

Pick around the movement window your squad can actually use — there is no single “best” branch for every mode or map.

How to play her after the nerf

She is still the best pure mobility legend, but the ultimate is no longer a free pick. Use Nitro Gates for rotations and repositioning, not just raw speed, and stop expecting the ult to delete someone behind cover — it now displaces more than it deletes. Pair her with a squad that commits to the gates; a lone Axle loses most of her value.
