ARC Raiders Emplacements: Using Fixed Cover

Turrets, barriers and fixed positions are tools, not safe zones. How to use ARC emplacements without becoming their bait.

Fixed positions are loud positions

The emplacements scattered across ARC maps look like safety, and against machines they often are. Against other raiders they are the opposite: a fixed position is a known position, and a known position is a target. The combat guide explains why noise draws players. An emplacement is the loudest thing you can do short of firing a grenade, because everyone on the map knows where a turret is.

Use them to clear, then leave

The correct pattern is to use a fixed weapon to solve a machine problem, then abandon it before another raider arrives to collect you. Holding the emplacement after the threat is gone is how a good position becomes a coffin. Treat emplacements as a tool for a moment, not a base for a raid.

Cover is not immunity

Barriers and walls stop bullets from one direction and one direction only. Players who plant themselves behind a barrier forget that the barrier has sides, and a flanking raider or a machine that repositions ends the fight. Keep moving behind the cover rather than standing on it, and watch the angles the barrier does not protect.

Deny the emplacement to others

If you leave an emplacement working, the next raider through will use it on you. Disable or displace after using it, because leaving it running is handing your enemy the position you just proved was strong.

When to commit

An emplacement is only worth the setup if the enemy must cross its arc, so place it to cover a route they cannot avoid rather than a sightline they will skip. The combat guide covers spacing, and the stealth guide reminds you that a static emplacement is loud once it fires. Pair it with a loadout guide that lets you reposition after it is spent.

Do not die on the gun

The mistake is standing behind the emplacement when the fight moves past it, so treat it as a delaying tool and break contact the moment you are flanked. The explosives guide pairs well for clearing what the emplacement pins.
