Battlefield 6 Unlock Guide: Weapons, Classes & Progression
Learn how Battlefield 6 progression unlocks weapons, attachments, and class perks through matches and role play.
Battlefield 6 lets any class carry any weapon. The catch: role weapons grant a special perk you lose by mixing them up.
Five steps to unlock your first loadout
Follow these steps to unlock your loadout fast.
- Pick a class and stick with it early. Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon each open different perks as you play.
- Play matches to fill the class progression track. Time spent in matches drives most unlocks, not kill count alone.
- Equip your role’s native weapon to earn its perk. A Recon with a sniper, for example, can hold breath for steadier long shots.
- Spend progression on attachments once the base gun is open. The attachment unlock guide lists what each mod does.
- Level the whole account to widen options. The leveling guide shows the fastest routes between modes.
Class XP runs across Conquest and Breakthrough
Progression is shared across modes. You earn class XP in Conquest the same way you do in Breakthrough. Weekly missions rotate and speed unlocks, so check the playlist tab each login.
Vehicles feed Engineer unlocks
Vehicles count too. Engineer vehicle unlocks come from time in tanks and aircraft, not just infantry play. Don’t grind one gun to extinction — spread your time to open the broadest attachment pool early. Recon’s breath perk is the clearest payoff for matching weapon to class.
Take the beginner path before you grind hard. The four-class system is easier to learn than it looks on paper. Spend your first hours in a role you enjoy, then branch out once the core unlocks open. Patience beats a rushed grind.
Weapons are not locked to one class. You can run a sniper on Assault, but you give up the Recon breath perk. Decide based on your style, not the meta.
Class perks reward role loyalty. Support players who stick to their kit revive and resupply better than a mixed loadout would. Engineer tools shine when you main vehicles.
Attachments come through steady play. Grips, optics, and barrels open as you use each weapon type. The order shifts with patches, so unlock by what the weapon needs to be usable rather than by the list’s sequence.
You do not need a special edition to unlock anything core. Phantom perks are cosmetic and early access only, not progression gates.
What the Shortcut Kits actually skip
The one paid path worth knowing about for late joiners: EA sells progression shortcuts rather than making you replay a year of seasons. The Ultimate Shortcut Kit grants immediate access to fully progressed weapons and attachments, plus Shortcut Kits for all four classes. It was bundled in the Game of the Year Edition that launched alongside Season 5 on 13 October 2026, carrying a 40% launch discount through 20 October 2026.
Read what it does and does not buy you. The kit removes the Mastery grind, not the skill gap — you still have to learn recoil patterns and sightlines, and it does not come with the map knowledge a year of seasons would otherwise have forced on you. Nothing inside it is required to unlock functional hardware, which is why the core progression above stays free.
RedSec and Portal also feed progression. The Portal mode guide explains custom XP rules for private matches. Stuck on a specific gun? The class guide maps each role’s best native picks.
Start with the beginner walkthrough if you are new to the four-class system. The Kinesthetic Combat System rewards players who learn lean and drag moves early.
