Ashes of the Damned: Zones, Ol' Tessie and Route Decisions

BO7 Zombies' launch map Ashes of the Damned: its connected zones, how the Ol' Tessie vehicle works, and the route decisions that keep a squad moving.

Ashes of the Damned is Black Ops 7 Zombies’ launch map, and Treyarch built it as the largest round-based map in the mode’s history — a set of zones stitched together by fog roads rather than one self-contained layout. That scale is the trap: squads get lost because they treat it like a single small map. This guide covers the zones, the vehicle that moves you between them, and the route decisions that keep you progressing.

The perk guide covers the buffs you will want, and the augments guide covers how research powers them.

The zone structure

Ashes is a connected world, not a single arena. Key areas include the Janus Towers plaza, a Soviet launch site, and a floating pyramid, tied together by the maps that pay homage to TranZit — Vandorn Farm and Exit 115 are explicit call-backs. Power and story steps are spread across these zones, so the first job is figuring out which zone your current objective lives in.

How Ol’ Tessie moves you

Travel between zones uses Ol’ Tessie, an upgradeable vehicle guided by the T.E.D.D. system. You do not sprint across the whole map on foot — you route through Tessie to move between distant zones, and upgrading it shortens the trips that would otherwise eat your rounds. Treat Tessie as part of your route plan, not a side mechanic.

Route decisions, not step-by-step

The mistake is chasing a written walkthrough step by step. The map rewards deciding where to go next based on your squad’s power level and which zone the current objective is in. Early on, secure power and a starting perk in your opening zone before crossing to the larger areas. As you upgrade Tessie and your augments, the map opens up and the long cross-zone trips stop costing you rounds.

What stays after the MW4 handoff

Ashes of the Damned is a BO7 Zombies map, and the Zombies progression you build here — perks, augments, camos — stays in BO7 permanently. The carry-forward guide explains what moved to MW4 and what did not.
