BO7 to MW4 Carry Forward: What Transfers and What Resets
MW4 wiped the multiplayer slate. Here's exactly what moved from Black Ops 7 into Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone — and what everyone starts over on.
The question every Black Ops 7 player has asked since Modern Warfare 4 launched on October 23, 2026: did my stuff move over? The short answer is that MW4 is a near-total reset for multiplayer, Warzone is the exception, and even the games media got one part wrong until Activision issued a correction. Here is the verified breakdown, with the one action item that still matters now.
If you are rebuilding your progression from zero, our Black Ops 7 hub covers the systems that carried into this reset — weapon prestige, camo tracks, and the Zombies progression that stays in BO7 permanently.
What carried into MW4 multiplayer
Very little, and this is the part that surprises people. MW4 was built by a different studio on a new progression system, so everyone starts at Level 1:
| Item | Into MW4 multiplayer? |
|---|---|
| COD Points balance | Yes — same platform only |
| Unspent 2XP tokens | Yes |
| Hunter Killer operator (MW4 pre-order) | Yes |
| Moonlit Pearl and Gilded Ruin universal camos | Yes, on any MW4 weapon |
| MW4 open beta rewards | Yes |
| BO7 weapons, weapon levels, attachments | No |
| BO7 mastery and earned camos | No |
| BO7 blueprints | No |
| BO7 operators (except Hunter Killer) | No |
| Military rank and Prestige | No — MW4 has its own system |
Two details worth knowing:
- COD Points are platform-locked. The balance follows your Activision account, but Activision Support confirms you can only see and spend points on the platform where you bought or earned them. Points bought on PlayStation do not appear on Xbox or PC.
- MW4’s camo track is new. It runs nine mastery camos — three each across multiplayer, Warzone, and DMZ-style modes — and none of your BO7 Dark Matter-era work counts toward it. MW4 reportedly ships with around 33 weapons (24 primaries, 8 secondaries, 1 melee), each with a fresh unlock ladder — the same from-zero attachment grind this franchise ran last year, which we mapped in our BF6 attachment unlocks guide. Treat the weapon counts as provisional until launch-day patch notes, but the reset itself is not in question.
MW4 also runs two Prestige paths: a Classic Prestige that resets your unlocks each tier with better rewards and increased XP rate, and a standard Prestige that keeps unlocks. That choice is part of why hoarded 2XP tokens matter — see the action list at the end.
The Warzone exception
Warzone is a persistent platform, and it behaves differently. When Warzone moved into the MW4-era Season 1:
- Operators and operator skins carry forward — from as far back as Modern Warfare II through Black Ops 7. Other players can hide legacy skins with a toggle if they prefer a uniform look.
- Weapon blueprints carry forward into a Legacy tab — including their attached configurations. You can use them, but you cannot rebuild or edit them in the new Gunsmith.
- Camos do not carry. This is the part Activision got wrong first: its own blog initially said legacy camos would work in Warzone, then published a formal correction on September 28, 2026. Camos from MWII, MWIII, BO6, and BO7 are not usable in the MW4-era Warzone. If you read a guide published before that correction saying otherwise, it is outdated.
One platform note: when MW4 Season 1 started, Warzone stopped working on PS4 and Xbox One. Your progress and COD Point purchases move to a current console or PC on the same Activision account.
Why your BO7 progress still matters
Black Ops 7 does not become a dead account. Season 6, “The Haunting,” is its final season, but the game itself — including round-based Zombies, Weapon Prestige, and the camo grind — remains playable, and none of that progress leaves BO7. The practical split is:
- Grind in BO7 if you care about Zombies mastery, BO7 camos, or finishing the last battle pass.
- Grind in MW4 if you care about multiplayer unlocks, because every hour there now builds toward a ladder that starts at zero.
What you should still do now
- Stop spending 2XP tokens in BO7. Unspent tokens are the single easiest thing you can carry into MW4, and Windows Central’s guidance is blunt: save them for the new game’s grind. Free tokens are still handed out in BO7 — claim them and bank them rather than burning them in a game you are wrapping up.
- Claim the pre-order items if you pre-ordered MW4. The Hunter Killer operator and the Moonlit Pearl / Gilded Ruin universal camos unlock inside BO7 and Warzone, and they carry into MW4 at launch. If you pre-ordered digitally and have not claimed them in BO7, that is the one piece of carry forward you can still act on.
- Buy MW4 content on the platform holding your COD Points. Cross-platform purchases do not merge. Seasonal token cutoffs behave differently in other shooters — our BF6 battle pass guide shows how another title in the genre handles end-of-season progression windows.
