BO7 Augments: How to Research and Which to Prioritize

BO7 Zombies Augments return with 192 modifiers. Here's how research unlocks at Level 11, the Major vs Minor split, and each tree's unlock order.

Augments are the modifier layer on your Zombies Perks, Ammo Mods, and Field Upgrades. BO7 ships 192 of them — 66 brand-new — and BO6’s completed research carries straight over. The part players actually get stuck on is not what augments do, but how the trees unlock in order. This guide covers the Level 11 gate, the Major/Minor split, and the exact unlock ladder. For what each Perk does on its own, see our BO7 Zombies Perks guide.

How to start researching

  • Reach Level 11 in Zombies (solo or co-op).
  • Open the Augment Research menu: Weapons → Augments → Research Augments.
  • Pick one diagram as your Active Research. You can only progress one at a time.
  • Progress comes from in-match XP by killing zombies. It is tied to natural XP, not a separate currency, so anything that earns XP counts.

Major vs Minor

Each enhancement has 8 augments total. In a match you run one Major plus up to two Minors:

  • You can only equip one Minor at first. After you research all eight augments for that enhancement, you unlock an “Extra Slot” Minor, letting you run both Minors together.
  • Major augments are game-changing — they alter how the perk, mod, or upgrade behaves.
  • Minor augments are smaller, utility-driven modifiers.

MajorTurtle Shell (Jugger-Nog)Armor fully blocks rear damage.

Unlock order (total Augments across any category)

The catch: trees unlock sequentially. You do not freely pick any tree — you must complete a certain total number of Augments (across Perks, Ammo Mods, or Field Upgrades; it does not matter which) to open the next tree. The consistent ladder:

Some trees also carry a minimum player-level gate on top of these counts, but the total-Augment ladder above is the order you unlock in.

How to research faster

  • Rampage Inducer (skull icon in the spawn area) raises zombie speed so you farm XP faster. It does not boost XP per kill — more spawns means more total XP.
  • Exfil for bonus XP, available from Round 11 and every 5 rounds after.
  • Double XP tokens (Battle Pass, events, bundles) double the XP you earn.

What carries over

BO6 Augment research transfers into BO7. Returning Perks, Ammo Mods, and Field Upgrades keep their completed unlocks, so returning players start ahead.

What to prioritize first

A common solo-friendly order: Stamin-Up (mobility) → Quick Revive (survivability) → Energy Mine (crowd control) → Jugger-Nog → Healing Aura → Aether Shroud (team revives and safe Ol’ Tessie repairs). Shift toward squad support once your core defense is covered. For the map itself, our BO7 Ashes of the Damned guide covers zones and the Ol’ Tessie vehicle.
