BO7 Weapon Prestige: What Resets and What You Keep

What happens when you prestige a weapon in Black Ops 7: level and attachments reset, but camos and optics stay, plus the four tiers and Permanent Unlock.

Weapon Prestige in Black Ops 7 is the deep end of the gun grind: max a weapon, reset it to level one, and earn tiered rewards. The part players get wrong is assuming everything wipes. It does not — camos and optics survive, which changes when you should prestige. This guide is about the weapon prestige track; it is separate from the account Prestige you take at level 55.

The full weapon list shows what you are grinding, and the carry-forward guide explains what survived the MW4 reset.

What resets when you prestige a weapon

  • Weapon level returns to 1.
  • All builds and blueprints reset.
  • Every earned attachment relocks and must be re-earned by leveling — except optic attachments, which stay permanently unlocked once obtained.

What stays

  • Camos (base, mastery, event) are never reset — they are tied to you, not the level.
  • Weapon customization — blueprints, reticles, charms, decals, stickers — is maintained.
  • Lifetime stats — kill counts, headshot tracking, and camo-challenge progress are logged in the background, so prestiging does not erase your mastery work.

That split is why veteran players finish camo challenges before prestiging: there is zero downside to waiting, and it avoids redoing attachment-dependent objectives on a stripped loadout.

The four prestige tiers

  • Weapon Prestige 1: a unique per-weapon Prestige Attachment, a Permanent Unlock token (pick one attachment to keep forever, bypassing the relock), a universal Prestige 1 camo, and an auto-built Prestige loadout.
  • Weapon Prestige 2: another level-and-attachment reset (optics and weapon camos still safe), a second Permanent Unlock, a universal Prestige 2 camo, a weapon-specific charm, and the Prestige 2 icon.
  • Weapon Prestige Master: the weapon keeps its level but the cap rises to 250; every attachment unlocked through progression becomes permanently unlocked; three Master camos unlock at levels 100, 150, and 200.
  • Weapon Prestige Max: reach Master Level 250 for a unique final camo (animated or a returning fan favorite) that is universal and equippable on any weapon.

Spend the Permanent Unlock on late-game attachments

The Permanent Unlock token lets one attachment stay available at level 1 every prestige. Spend it on something you can only reach late in the level grind — a recoil or ADS attachment you lean on — not on an early unlock you will re-earn in minutes.

When to actually prestige

Once a weapon hits its max level, any weapon XP you keep earning is wasted unless you prestige, because it does not roll over. The efficient move is to hard-cap the weapon, finish the camos and builds you care about, then prestige and pop a 2XP Weapon Token on the reset. Prestiging too early just slows you down if you depend on specific attachments for recoil control.

This is the weapon track only. Account Prestige at level 55 Commander resets Scorestreaks, weapons, equipment, Field Upgrades, and Perks, but keeps your weapon progression, camos, Season Pass, and Operators — so your hardest weapon work is safe either way.
