Destiny 2 Gambit Guide: Bank, Invade, Win

Gambit blends PvE and invading in Destiny 2. Bank motes, don't over-bank, and time your invades to swing the match.

Gambit looks like PvE until the enemy invades and deletes your motes. New players over-bank, mistime their own invades, and watch the match slip away. Gambit is PvE with a chess layer, and a few rules flip your win rate.

How motes and banking work

Gambit pits two teams on separate arenas. You kill enemies, collect the motes they drop, and bank them to summon a boss. First team to finish wins — unless an invader interferes.

Bank in smart chunks. Banking 5, 10, or 15 motes gives a small blocker to the enemy; banking 20 or more sends a big one. Do not hoard to 20 if a runner is near you.

Do not over-bank. Dumping everything at once feeds the enemy a giant blocker and risks a stolen deposit. Bank in waves and keep moving.

When to invade in Gambit

Invade at the right moment. Send an invader when the enemy is about to bank, or when their runner is exposed. A well-timed invade interrupts their progress and swings momentum.

Defend your mote runner

Defend your runner. If you are carrying motes, your team should clear adds so you reach the bank clean. Coordination here beats raw skill.

Burn the Primeval together

The Primeval is the final boss. Burn it with your team’s heavy ammo and Supers once it appears. Our best exotic weapons guide suggests damage options for the fight.

Watch for the enemy invader and clear them fast. A dead invader cannot steal your motes. Our Crucible guide helps if you want the gunfight edge.

Communicate invades and blockers in chat even with strangers, because a warned team plays better. Learn the mote routes on each map so your runs stay clean. Gambit rewards the player who thinks one step ahead of the bank. Patience and timing beat raw speed.

Bank in waves, invade on their bank, and defend your runner — Gambit rewards timing more than firepower.
