Destiny 2 Vault of Glass Raid Guide

Vault of Glass is the free raid that drops Vex Mythoclast. Here is how the Oracles, Templar, and Atheon fights work

Vault of Glass is the most iconic raid in Destiny history. The Destiny 2 version is free to play and drops the Vex Mythoclast exotic fusion rifle. It is also the raid where most Guardians learned oracle duty.

Vault of Glass encounter breakdown

The raid opens with the Confluxes, where you defend three plates while destroying Oracles. The Templar is the classic defend-the-rift fight with a strict damage phase. The Gorgons maze tests stealth: look at a Gorgon and your team wipes. Atheon is the final boss, with the time-stream mechanic that sends players into the past or future to cleanse the buff.

Preparing for Vault of Glass

Bring a loadout with strong add-clear and a damage super. Power level 1330 or higher is the comfortable floor. Raids are not matchmade, so you need a pre-made fireteam before you queue — and a group with callouts clears it far faster than six strangers.

Farming Vex Mythoclast

The exotic can drop from the raid after the first encounter once Atheon is defeated. There is no quest, so you farm weekly clears and hope. The catalyst comes from a puzzle inside the raid, so keep an eye out for it on every run.

What actually kills the run

  • Letting an Oracle live and wiping the team.
  • Staring at a Gorgon in the maze.
  • Ignoring the time-stream callout during Atheon.

FAQ

Is Vault of Glass hard? It is mechanically strict but forgiving on damage.

Do I need an expansion? No. It is free.

What is the exotic? Vex Mythoclast, an exotic fusion rifle with two fire modes.

The role to learn first

Learn Oracles before anything else. Every other job in the raid is forgiving for a first-timer — add control is add control, and Templar damage just needs a super — but oracle duty is binary: a missed call wipes the team, and the call has to land before the add wave does. Practise on the far plate rather than the one beside the entrance, because the far plate is where the timing gets tight. Once you can hold Oracles you can hold anything in the raid, and groups will take you on the strength of that one job. The raid preparation notes cover the loadout side, and the loot table shows what a clear is actually for.
